In my opinion is a very good game, if you like old school point and click adventure, give it a try. It's free!!! Nice background Nice story and good humour.
Beneath a Steel Sky is a typical adventure game, with a good storyline, well-designed characters, great dialogue, and moments of pixel-hunting and generally not knowing where to go next. I liked it a lot.
This adventure game is a really nice game. With cheesy characters (Joey! Yay!), and some humorous dialogs and descriptions; with a comic intro that's really cool and a story that's really great.
The best part of the story is that it contains elements that we can see in dystopian books like 1984 and Brave New World (Read them if you haven't, I recommend them), A Big-Brother government that sees everything, changes the truth of the information and a big project that was meant one way but ended being different (Trying to evade spoilers.)
You should really try this game, it's funny, it's deep and it's well made (The fact that here at GOG it's free is a nice fact, right?).
What a fun game!
It's like 1980s cyberpunk with a mix of Steve Jackson Games style goofiness and witty dialogue out of classic screwball comedy. It's amusing to see this clash of styles.
Joey is a riot. A robot companion who doesn't buy Asimov's Three Laws and always has some metal lip to spare.
Good visuals, too. The city has a fun, retro-dystopia vibe.
Voice acting is quite good. I like the contrast between Foster, who sounds like the only American in the game, and all the other mostly Australian accents. Truly, one is lost Down Under . . . makes me think of Cordwainer Smith . . .
As one of the first games developed by Revolution that garnered some serious attention, I can recommend giving this title a serious look.
To be honest, I hadn't even heard of this title prior to my exposure to ScummVM and the Linux arena, I'm disappointed I had missed it in my youth, but happy I had a chance to enjoy it now.
This game was released freely to the scummvm team as well as the general public, which should erase any excuses for you not to try it.
The general mood of the story, the music is spot-on, both of which give this title superior feel, even though it is a GOG with dated graphics. ScummVM allows you to apply filters to enhance the look.
I recommend this title to everyone.
