Description

Beacon Pines is a cute and creepy adventure set within a mysterious book. You play as both the reader of the book and its main character, Luka.

Something strange is happening at the old warehouse, and Luka and his friends seem to be the only ones taking notice. Sneak out late, make new friends, uncover hidden truths, and collect words that will change the course of fate!

While helping Luka investigate the strange goings-on in Beacon Pines, you’ll collect special golden charms, each with a word engraved on it. These charms can be used at certain turning points in the story to fill in a blank word and drastically change everything that follows.

As the book's reader, you’ll navigate the story’s turning points using The Chronicle: an interactive story tree that branches and grows along with your choices. Exploring one set of events can unlock new charms to use on another branch, leading you to jump back and forth between entirely different versions of the story in order to unravel the mysteries at the heart of Beacon Pines.

Overall, I enjoyed my time with Beacon Pines. Its eye-catching storybook art style catches your attention which is then held by the game's fast-moving and suspenseful plot. There were times when this story felt too convoluted in some areas whilst a little lacking in explanation in others, but it's still an easy recommendation. Just don't trust its cutesy appearance too much — Beacon Pines might start out at the beginning of Summer, but that eerie undertone makes it a great contender to play in the run-up to Halloween.

I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a softy when it comes to good stories, but I’ve still played quite a few games and seen enough narratives of all kinds to think it’s hard to floor me these days. Or so I thought, anyway. I’m not sure if I was caught off guard or if Beacon Pines really is just that good. It’s pretty easy to see that its art and music are both top notch. Ultimately, this is also a story good enough that I’d love more people to see it so I can talk to them about it. It might not be the longest game, and the thrill of the exploration may bottleneck a bit at the end, but the changing course, different routes, and ultimate ending of Beacon Pines are still more than worth exploring for any fan of narrative adventure.

Masterpiece

This game is the best narrative adventure game I've ever played. It is extremely polished and you can tell a ton of heart that went into this game. Freely being able to switch between timelines felt like I was in Strains Gate, at first I thought the plot was going to be average but it ended up being incredible, and the dialogue is so well written it made me envious I can't write that well, not to mention the gorgeous visuals and the very well done narration. It has a pretty cool ost too! If you like narrative adventures you MUST play this game.

A great adventure game

Being a fan of choose your own adventure games, I especially liked the Charm mechanic. I would definitely recommend this game, I would highly recommended the games soundtrack as well. I wish that they would release a sequel.

Grave tension, mystery and atmosphere

Cute on the outside, dark and sad on the inside. Really enjoyable game, kept me wanting to play it every time I had to stop. Honestly there isn't much gameplay but there is. Most of it is walking around and talking to people and finding things. And the little gameplay that there is proofs how much gameplay elevates story telling and immersion. So I'm really thankful this is in the game. This and the tight and twisted story make this enjoyable to someone who usually plays action games. The start is odd, when you don't know where it goes but after a short while it gets going. I rarely recomment games with low gameplay. But this one is unique, very enjoyable and tense. And the art is perfect.

Adorable little game

A cute and suprisingly well written game, one of the rare few that manages to not overstay its welcome without feeling insultingly short. About six-seven hours, which is hearty and more than enough to do all the story set out to do, but I honestly wouldn't have minded if it went on for another three or more, since the setting and characters were all so fun to explore. The only thing to note is that this game is basically a visual novel where you can more the character aroud a bit in between bouts of reading. Not a downside to me, but I could see how some people might be bothered by it. Highly recommended to those who want to enjoy a PG-13 horror story with a warm heart at the center.

A good time

This quasi-choose-your-own-adventure storybook adventure was a fun experience. If you enjoyed Night in the Woods, you'll probably enjoy this; though Beacon Pines doesn't quite achieve the same level of small-town ambience, characterization, or narrative quality, and the soundtrack is more distracting than engrossing, it's worth a playthrough.
