The year is 3025 and the galaxy is trapped in a cycle of perpetual war, fought by noble houses with enormous, mechanized combat vehicles called BattleMechs. Take command of your own mercenary outfit of 'Mechs and the MechWarriors that pilot them, struggling to stay afloat as you find yourself drawn into a brutal interstellar civil war. Upgrade your starfaring base of operations, negotiate mercenary contracts with feudal lords, repair and maintain your stable of aging BattleMechs, and execute devastating combat tactics to defeat your enemies on the battlefield.
COMMAND A SQUAD OF 'MECHS IN TURN-BASED COMBAT: Deploy over 30 BattleMechs in a wide variety of combinations. Use terrain, positioning, weapon selection and special abilities to outmaneuver and outplay your opponents.
MANAGE YOUR MERCENARY COMPANY: Recruit, customize, and develop unique MechWarriors. Improve and customize your dropship. As a Mercenary, travel a wide stretch of space, taking missions and managing your reputation with a variety of noble houses and local factions.
TAKE PART IN A DESPERATE CIVIL WAR: Immerse yourself in the story of a violently deposed ruler, waging a brutal war to take back her throne with the support of your ragtag mercenary company.
CUSTOMIZE YOUR 'MECHS: Use your MechLab to maintain and upgrade your units, replacing damaged weapon systems with battlefield salvage taken from fallen foes.
PVP MULTIPLAYER & SKIRMISH MODE: Customize a Lance of 'Mechs and MechWarriors to go head-to-head with your friends, compete against opponents online, or jump into single-player skirmish mode to test your strategies against the AI.

I've been playing Battletech since the 1980s. This is the first game that feels like I'm actually playing it and not just an arcade game set in the universe. It's reminded me of why I loved that game so much!
Games fun to play the base game is easy to understand and there are mods. Mods are easy to install and there are 3 to 4 main mod packs you cna get. I jsut go with BTA and some of the others get to intense, but then there are mod packs that are very venallia. If you like mechs and moving mech around in a tactical way then you will love this. Mods also ad vehicles such as arty... lol.
Seems like this game got a lot of flak because of bugs, which seem to be fixed now. What remains is a truly great game. Some people say Mech Commander is better. That makes no sense: it's a turn-by-turn game, where MC is live. There is no comparison to make.
Graphics are great, gameplay is fun, but mostly it's the best rendering of the TT game so far. There's a lot of non-canon rules, but they're good.
There are flaws, but they're minor:
- poor scaling for non-widescreen
- load times get rather long. Stretch a bit and go get a snack.
- lacks help for in-game interface
- lacks customizable key bindings
- sound effects aren't great; your AC/20 goes "pop"
- chatter can get irritating, but you can disable it
- missions can get repetitive, but much less than MW5, and it's probably because you've played too much...
This game was exactly what I expected and more. There's a fun campaign in addition to interesting turn-based combat. Upgrading your mechs and fine-tuning them to match your pilots' strengths is a fun process, too. Even after 'finishing' the game, I still enjoy going back from time to time to fight a battle or two. It's easy to pick back up again.
