BATTLETECH

I like this game and would recommend it. I’ve been playing Battletech/Mechwarrior games since AGP video cards. Graphics and game play are what I expected for a turn-based game. What I don’t like • DX11 o Game would run better on DX12 or Vulcan • Main character being a mercenary. o Would have been better to be a part of the direct rebellion. Instead of grinding for better mechs and weapons just because, grind to increase access to better items for the rebellion. I feel the mercenary aspect is a cop out to not put time into telling a better story.

The description and especially the trailers make you expect something entirely different to what the game actually is. The game is neither packed with action and fights, nor does it offer significant strategic depth. You will spend a lot of time simply waiting for stuff to happen or take a lot of time to do very little. The UI feels very clunky and overall the game just doesn't feel thought out. Despite overshooting the minimum required specs by a massive margin, the game crashed repeatedly and stuttering is a frequent occurrence. The story and characters are incredibly generic and stereotypical, so much so that they border on satirical, however they both serve no purpose other than a backdrop so this could be overlooked. As is traditional for Paradox games, you can spend a lot more money on rather little content in the form of DLCs. Unless there is a heavy discount and you're a big fan of mech games, probably go buy something else.

I was a little bit suspicious since the last game with so much advertising on GOG was No Man'sSky which was finally... not really good. Nevertheless, I bought Battletech. This was a mistake. To make a quick sum up. GOOD: - The narrative, not pretty original, but it is OK. - The cutscenes. Not awasome, but very good with the narrative. BAD (and somtines awful) : - Tacticaly poor (see further). - The zoom amplitude is ridiculous, taking smart and good decisions is just a bet in such conditions. - Game is incredibly buggy (saves, in the tactical interface ytou select a mech another is moving, or when you move on the map to expore it the mech is considered to have moved, unable to see clearly what orders can be cancelled, etc...etc... too long here). - The Stategic UI is piece of s*** : incredibly slow, with too many menus and manipulations for the least change or decision. One of the worth I ever saw. - The game pace is slow. Can be cool. But not in this case, it is just boring an frustrating. Except if any serious change occurs, there is few chances I play this game again, nor I'll buy any big advertised game on GOG...

Almost a month have passed and game is unplayable mess. They do fix things but it's still unplayable for some people, including me. Avoid this game, avoid these devs at leat until they fix all of the problems.

I like the game, but it crashed after I completed a mission and didn't save my progress. I wouldn't mind the crash, but losing 30 mins of progress is not acceptable. The graphics are good, the story is fun, and there are lots of features that make the gameplay much more pleasant than the usual turn based game (like simultaneous moves while there are no enemies in sight). However playing the same content over and over trying to get past a crash is not fun at all.
