Battlestar Galactica Deadlock

escape?.... what's that? for fanboys like me it's a must, especially if you grew up with the TV Series. fanboy stuff out of the way the game: -the graphics deserve more attention and I do hope the developers deliver with a free update -the mechanics are different and enjoyable, because they are different, and because BSG is different -the war room is just gorgeous, and I like their love to detail designing it (I hoped to be able to actually walk around everywhere in that room) -I haven't played very far for now but I miss the Nova class PEGASUS from the original series and though not really possible but some voiceovers of the original cast so far I played the tutorials with no ship loss and in after the campaign tutorial for some serious action against the Cylons all in all, yes it is a fanboy game and you do need to be a loyal player to the movie franchise that you can build up some emotions involved with the game / it's like the same with Spiderman, if you never read the comics you probably in for a shock watching the movies. great game and even if it's to kill some time, you will eventually like the game even if you never heard of Battlestar Galactica

A pretty good strategy and tactical sim, although it feels small at times. The onslaught of Cylons can be daunting at times, but proper strategy can help make life easier. Ships feel weighty, and fighters are actually useful. The music is definitely reminiscent of the 2004 show, if a little repetitive after a while. The replay is truly worth it, and a nice change from so many other "replay" cams too often ignored. This one is worth the watch. If it had mod support, I'd give it the full 5 stars, as it has very good bones, and just wish the small dev who made this gem would let us play under the hood.

This closest game I can think of is XCOM. There are two phases of the game ship combat and the strategy map. Ship combat is semi turn-based where you decided what to do and watch it play out. The strategy map is where you build, customize and deploy your ships. If you're a fan of space combat cinematics this is a great ride. It the gameplay was engaging and required me to think tactically, deploying flak to stop a barrage of missiles, deciding how many fighters to use offensively vs defensively. retreating damaged ships at the right moment, etc. You can't just through your ships at them and expect to win. I particularly like the section armor system to force you to always consider the ship's relative position to one another to distributed damage to fully armored sections. The story was the right level of cheese for a strategy video game. If your a strategy game fan or Batterlstar Galactica fan I would recommend Deadlock.

You won't be able to play without an internet connection.

If you're a Battlestar Galactica fan, this game is for you! Even if you don't care about the show and just want a cool Spaceship TBS, I still recommend this game. The Simultaneous Turn mechanic is perfect for this sort of genre and I find myself on the edge of my seat all the time when I'm watching those missiles and raiders rolling in, thinking about my next orders or when a revealed enemy ship forces me to toss my first plan into the wastebasket! Praises aside, I do have to ding this game a star, at least for the PvE campaigns. Cylon tactics get pretty repetitive and predictable later in the campaigns. While the DLCs have a few Cylon fleet compositions than can rock your socks, it's still the same mob of Raiders and random ships. Carriers beat Missile Boats and other Carriers, Missile Boats beat anything at range, and Gunships beat anything when up close. Once you master that Rock-Paper-Scissors game, it gets pretty samey. As much as I adore this game, I find myself only playing 1 mission once or twice to avoid getting bored out. Still, if you're a fan of the show or sci-fi strategy games, give it a try! There's a lot of content to enjoy and a lot of cool ships. Maybe once I'm through with the last Colonial Story DLC, I'll see about mastering the Cylon Fleet...
