Battlestar Galactica Deadlock

I have zero knowledge about BSG other than it's a TV show from the 70s, yet I've enjoyed tons of hours of this game on Steam. It's simple, it's clean in design and mechanics, and it offers a good strategic challenge. If you've ever played Battlefleet Gothic Armada, it's pretty much it, but turn based... If you haven't, well, BSG Dreadlock is a spaceship fighting game with SIMULTANEOUS turns: The game pauses, you plan the actions everything under your command will take, hit "next turn", and enjoy watching the next 10 seconds or so of action unfold. The game is basically a naval warfare game with a space skin. Regarding graphics, it's not intensive, but it looks nice enough to be immersive. It runs really well, and a huge thing for me is that the game and UI scale perfectly to 4K. The sound effects, on the other hand... are as generic as they get. And regarding content, it has 1 campaign (5 more via DLC), skrimish and multiplayer modes, and a media viewer (cutscenes, saved replays, and screenshots). On Steam it's not unusual to see people with thousands of hours of playtime, so you can get an idea that this game is enjoyable enough to be "one of those games". I'm waiting for a sale to buy this game + all DLC now that I'm transferring to GOG, and I suggest you to give it a chance if you're remotely interested.

I finally get to play this little jewel. It's a tactical 3D tactically combat sim by turns, in Battlestar Galactica universe. Pros: -Good mechanics. Easy to learn, hard to master. -Overall story layer is ok, inmerses you in the BSG universe. -Sound and graphics (for a 2018 game) are ok. Love seeing the spaceships details, with burn marks and damage, or even smoking out. -Variety of ships. Cons: -Would like more variety on enemy ships, or even (go off-canon?) and have more enemies. -Might get a bit repetitive. Play on harder difficulties to get the most out of it. Notes: I bought it over a year ago in Steam and had a refund, because it would crash easily and would always stuck after the last tutorial, so I could never load the first mission. GOG's version has been smooth all along, no crashes or any issue. The DLCs are all in GOG, just not showing in the game's main page. Even Anabasis DLC, which for some reason is not available in my region according to Steam.

The ships are fun, the overal planning is great. The turn based combat simulates the delay in orders going to ships and I rather like it. Only thing that gets bothersome is how the nongameplay missions are more grindey after a while. They can go completely south or be a complete route depending on how you play it

Okay, perhaps I had the wrong expectations when buying this game. I expected a strategic TBS. It turned out to be a tactical TBS where you give orders to spaceships each turn and watch them combat the opponent. Yeah, it's okay, the game is reasonably polished but gets very repetitive very quickly as it lacks a strategic element and all you're doing is basically giving the same types of orders in very similar skirmishes over and over again. One of the advantages of buying games on steam is that you can ask for a refund if you are not really satisfied with the game itself instead of having some technical issue like which is the requirement here at GOG.

If you love space dreadnaught combat, and most games you play are more elaborate then shooters - that may be the game for you. If you are also BSG fan - it's a must. It takes some time to understand the mechanics and use them succesfully, but it's worth it. Battles in mid and late game require some tactical skill to survive them. Learning how to defeat an enormous cylon fleet without major losses and finally doing so brought me loads of satisfaction. Visuals are eye catchy at times, AI ain't bad at all, music is perfect. Campain itself brings solid story and beside it quite a strategic challange on the world map. Defending 12 civilised planets at once with just a few fleets will force you to think hard. Sin & Sacrifice DLC brings very nice continuation of the story, however I would rather pass on Operation Anabsis DLC - it was 1-day shot for me and it lacks any story. Overall - It can seem to be a bit monotoneus and demanding at times but the whole experience it definitely worth it.
