Discover the grim dark universes of Warhammer where there is only war. From Warhammer 40,000 to Warhammer Fantasy and more - discover it all on GOG Warhammer Franchise page.

Battlefleet Gothic: Armada is the RTS videogame adaptation of Games Workshop’s classic tabletop game, pitting the Chaos, Imperium, Eldar, and Orks against each other in visceral space-battles.

Developed with Unreal Engine 4, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada offers deep management of every ship composing the player’s fleet, both during and between battles. From the fastest frigates to the gigantic, miles-long battleships, the player will customize all aspects of his ships: weaponry, defense and support sub-systems, but also crew, captains, and more... each customization affecting the very performances of the ship and the special abilities available during battle. From battle to battle, the admirals and crew of surviving ships will gain experience and promotions, improving the battle-readiness of the ships for future, bigger and more dangerous battles.

Additionally an extensive multiplayer mode with persistent fleets where up to 4 players can battle simultaneously, Battlefleet Gothic: Armada also features a big story campaign, taking place during the 12th Black Crusade and putting players in the middle of the Gothic War that raged between the Imperium and Abaddon the Despoiler. Players will be at the centre of every fight, commanding fleets of gigantic ships as the Chaos unleash a sequential chain of surprise attacks on Imperium worlds – the start of 20 years of warring in the sector.

  • An expansive single-player campaign across the Gothic sector.
  • Four factions to command, each one with its own strengths and skills.
  • Tactical PVP multiplayer offering infinite replayability.
  • A huge array of authentically recreated Battlefleet Gothic ships.
  • A real-time strategy experience retaining many of the tactical Battlefleet Gothic elements.
  • A plethora of lore-abiding skills to fill the player’s arsenal.
  • Upgrade and apply skills at port Maw

Cross-platform multiplayer is supported.

Underwhelming tactical battles

I bought and played the game on Steam. The obvious first: None of the pictures above show the actual gameplay, they are all cutscenes. You play in a visually unimpressive top-down isometric view, far zoomed out with your ships tiny images the size of icons. It never looks like in any of those pictures. Even though your are in "space", you play each encounter on a tiny, rectangular 2D map where your ships may move in only one plane, making this feel much more like naval warfare. Fleet sizes are also tiny esp. in the beginning, as you are usually restricted to no more than 5 ships. The tactical aspect is also limited by the fact that all you do is use the primary ability to fire on your enemies and click on buttons for special abilities whenever you can. All the tactic is in positioning your ships right, which is sometimes made tedious by a sub-par AI. In short, the gameplay felt a bit underwhelming, like something you would expect on a smartphone, but not a PC. The rich Warhammer universe unfortunately is cut down in this game to only three factions and bland storytelling. The DLCs don't really change that as they are just for multiplayer and don't affect single player campaigns. The most important note (for some of us): Be warned that the minimum and recommended specs listed here and elsewhere for the game are incorrect. Aramada requires 16 GB of RAM to run smoothly. If you got 8 GB or even less, the game will start, but it wil max out your RAM and you machine will start swapping, causing incredibly long loading times and making it a real pain to play, even to the point of being entirely unplayable. All in all, this would have been an okay-ish casual game if it was just a little less demanding on the system requirements, gameplay was just a little less repetetive and the story would have made more of the rich lore the Warhammer universe has to offer. As it is, however, this feels like a great idea with poor implementation.

Totally unplayable

The game is unfairly hard. Some events seems scripted, like ships you are supposed to defend got destroyed at the beginning of the mission, without any enemy attackign them. You can see enemies ships recharging shields instantly, as they are not supposed to be destroyed... yet. Your fleet is drammatically slower than enemies. Always. All the time. Without hope of redemption. As a consequence, the AI simply ignore yours ships, rushing straigh to whatever they are supposed to destroy, while you lag behind, frustratnly seeing your objectives being shredded to pieces with little you can do. Missions are worn: 1. You got lucky and AI do something really unoptimal. 2. You perfecly time your actions after a number of retries. In addition to the above, you are constantly underpowered in terms of weapons and using special abilities, with a lot of micromanagment, is the only way of having some hope of winning a mission. Overall the game has very good and immersive story and setting but the unforgiving, artificial, difficulty, makes it too frustrating to enjoy.

Game wont even start

Missing critical DLL files. Trying to repair and reinstate these DLL's wont solve the issue. The game DOES NOT launch without convoluted ways to get the DLL files such as creating a project in Visual Studio and such. Its not worth it, and GOG needs to remove this game until a fix is made. These problems occur on EVERY version of windows.

Game won't launch

This release seems to be missing several DirextX files on Windows 7. Reinstalling DirectX doesn't help. Be aware.
