Good time killer

I enjoyed my first few hours of Banished before it felt like a bit of grind. From a technical standpoint, I had no issues with resolution, bugs, etc. The game just plained worked and adding mods from the community was easy as well. I found the graphics good and the music pleasant and relaxing. The gameplay was initially challenge, but once I had the food production to citizen growth curve figured out, the game kind of tails off from there. Short of upgrading a house from wood to stone and trading for various seeds and livestock that you don't start with, there isn't any upward expansion in the game. The buildings you can build initially are all you get. I'm a big fan of unlocks, research, enhancements, etc and that's the only reason this game lost a star.

Challenging and fun

Excellent city sim. Provides just proper difficulty and tons of options for simulation, as flavor on top it has sort-of-unique and pretty graphic-style.

Not much here

This is not a very deep sim. Everything is buildable almost immediately with things you find lying around, and there's aren't really any goals worth putting in time for. There are only a couple kinds of raw resource, only a few things that can be made from them, and no intermediate resources. The AI also leaves somewhat to be desired. Units take strange paths even with faster roads (there are only 2 kinds, bare dirt and stone). Another weird AI behavior is if you designate a building that takes logs (almost all of them do) and it requires trees to be cleared for its footprint, units won't stop delivering logs until the logs you just chopped down are hauled away to a stockpile. So units will haul the logs away from the build site (which could be quite far from the nearest stockpile) only to haul them right back. Overall, the game is probably not worth your time or money.

Badly broken

9 minutes in, the tutorial breaks. This is apparently due to changes made in path-building that weren't tested in the tutorial. What a mess. Last patch was in 2017.

Don't waste your time

There's a reason why good designers are working for major studios and bad ones are churning out badly balanced crap like this. Avoid.
