Banished

I find this game really compelling. It has aspects to it you really don't see in other games like the primary need to manage you population to maintain enough workers to help your village thrive. At the harder settings you really have to find the proper balance. It is actually a nice subtle challenge. It could use some more special events as others have said about this game, but at its core is a casual build game that doesn't need them. It depends completely on the player. Personally I love this game and think it is a work of art of a video game as it stands.

Best game I have played in years. It is worth every penny of it. There are extensive mods as well. Replayablility to the max!

Although it can get repetitive after a bit, I always come back to this game, it's very relaxing to me, and the population mechanics are always a challenge. I haven't tried out mods or really gotten to a BIG population stage, but I really like the music, the ambient and the little details like the villager's names, their schedules, their family arrangements. Really enjoyable, relaxed vibe game with a bit of waiting for things to develop and to have the resources to keep growing.
