Gather your party, and return to the Forgotten Realms in a tale of fellowship and betrayal, sacrifice and survival, and the lure of absolute power.
Mysterious abilities are awakening inside you, drawn from a Mind Flayer parasite planted in your brain. Resist, and turn darkness against itself. Or embrace corruption, and become ultimate evil.
From the creators of Divinity: Original Sin 2 comes a next-generation RPG, set in the world of Dungeons and Dragons.
Choose from a wide selection of D&D races and classes, or play as an origin character with a hand-crafted background. Adventure, loot, battle and romance as you journey through the Forgotten Realms and beyond. Play alone, and select your companions carefully, or as a party of up to four in multiplayer.
Abducted, infected, lost. You are turning into a monster, but as the corruption inside you grows, so does your power. That power may help you to survive, but there will be a price to pay, and more than any ability, the bonds of trust that you build within your party could be your greatest strength. Caught in a conflict between devils, deities, and sinister otherworldly forces, you will determine the fate of the Forgotten Realms together.
Forged with the new Divinity 4.0 engine, Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you unprecedented freedom to explore, experiment, and interact with a world that reacts to your choices. A grand, cinematic narrative brings you closer to your characters than ever before, as you venture through our biggest world yet.
The Forgotten Realms are a vast, detailed and diverse world, and there are secrets to be discovered all around you -- verticality is a vital part of exploration. Sneak, dip, shove, climb, and jump as you journey from the depths of the Underdark to the glittering rooftops of the Upper City. How you survive, and the mark you leave on the world, is up to you.
allows you to combine your forces in combat, and split your party to follow your own quests and agendas. Concoct the perfect plan together… or introduce an element of chaos when your friends least expect it.
offer a hand-crafted experience, each with their own unique traits, agenda, and outlook on the world. Their stories intersect with the entire narrative, and your choices will determine whether those stories end in redemption, salvation, domination, or many other outcomes.
based on the D&D 5e ruleset. Team-based initiative, advantage & disadvantage, and roll modifiers join combat cameras, expanded environmental interactions, and a new fluidity in combat that rewards strategy and foresight.
through your choices, and the roll of the dice. No matter who you play, or what you roll, the world and its inhabitants will react to your story.
allows you to pause the world around you at any time even outside of combat. Whether you see an opportunity for a tactical advantage before combat begins, want to pull off a heist with pin-point precision, or need to escape a fiendish trap. Split your party, prepare ambushes, sneak in the darkness -- create your own luck!
The game is definitely worth the time and the asking price. It is:
+ Visually stunning, yet performant!
+ Great character design; everything one wishes for.
+ Filled content to the brim; a lot of voiced dialogs.
+ Provides narrative feedback on the play progression.
+ The combat, even for fighter, includes many ways to play out an engagement; it doesn't feel grindy.
+ Most of the characters are not flat absolutes and morally gray instead - far more convincing.
+ Well-balanced difficulty level up until the last fight that's easier than optional ones.
+ Refreshing multi-level environment design makes the terrain traversal more of decision making than a choir.
Yet, there are a few letdowns:
- 4 person party - works with 5e, yet feels majorly limiting in comparison with the actual BG game or the modern Pathfinder WOTR. Not great for what a cRPGs came to be built around.
- 5e's dumbed down/casual (yet balanced) feats don't allow for fun builds. Ah, 3.5e...
- 12 level cap - feels very-very limiting, yet appropriate for the storyline.
- Bugs. Hell a lot of bugs.
- Inventory management is tedious.
- The writing picks up in the 2nd act on, yet still goes no where near wow side (IMHO, not Larian's forte).
- No option for real-time combat. Waiting out turns can get real tedious, I'd jsut kill of the small stuff to make the turns end faster.
- Cleric class spell list is boring.
All in all, it's definitely worth the time and is enjoyable. Yet, if you want a BG3 experience instead of the casual one of DOS, go with Pathfinder WOTR instead.
From my experience of playing all the other BGs( 1 & 2 multiple times) I can tell you this is not BG unfortunately. The game has its own merits, but the grindy searching for objects to sell and talking animal quests make this game Divnity 3. The spells have been simplified, A lot of them were just removed. "Fly doesn't let you fly you can just get to vertical positions faster so it is not fly, you don't float and enemies can't get to you. At the moment I am waiting for some more patches and maybe I will complete it but I haven't finished ACT 1 cause its a slog.
Overoll as a BG title the game is dissapoiting . I dont think Larian delivered game worth this name . In most aspects is more DOS 2 than BG2( graphics, 4 characters party , orgin characters etc. shouts dos 2 )- But thats my opinion .
Performance/balance wise i have mix feelings . Act 1 - i honestly cant think about any issus i had there -3y in early acces and massive support from community is a big part of why is so polished
But Act 3 is different story .From the begining it was lacking in quality and after 4 big patches i feel thers more bugs than on release ( specially annoying freezing of you party ).- no early acces
And i point that because A lot of ppl praising Larian for being better than other developers .
But for me they are up to todays standarts unfortunately -games are realest with to many bugs and isssues.
Lets point some goods :
-overalll good story with 1or 2 supprises
- music
- voice acting
Overoll i think game was over hyped by Larian and some other ppl and for me unfortunately they didnt delivered .
Its fun, don't get me wrong, but it isn't as fun as the original and second baldur's gate games. Nothing wrong with the game, its the source material. %th Edition D&D is lame compared to all other editions , except the 4th edition, which wasn't fun.
TLDR:
For everyone: Good crpg, AAA game production - animations, voiceovers. Likable and original companions with actual personalities and somewhat meaningfull progress. Questionable UX choices for mouse&keyboard users.
For the fans of Divinity original sin (2): Great UI improvement (but still not great), story telling improvements, combat is very simplified.
For the experienced DnD players: Story intended for high level, maybe even epic campaing (my guess is level ~10 to ~18 on 3e at minimum) with the high level creatues and saving the world. Played with lvl 1 characters and nerfed adversaries. Companions have the history of the high level characters but start at lvl 1. Plain ruleset oversights - get acess to "true resurrection" scroll, lvl9 spell, on level 1, this item could make half of the endings into happy end and solve some personal quests instantly but no, it is just revivify+heal. Feels like story writen by someone (talented) after reading drizzt books and starting their first DnD campaing as DM from lvl1.
For dnd/Faerun lore enthusiasts and DMs. Just don't. Maybe it's just 5e thing but I hate it. Dead three are not dead, low level adversaries stealing from Mephistopheles. Meet gods daughter, immortal, get "commands/messages" directly from gods. Time of troubles consequences are inconsequential. Mindflayer lore mostly ignored. Change the course of gith* races in single decision in single dialogue. (and you still have the true ressurection scroll which could fix everyting)
For Baldur's gate 2 fans: Not a Baldur's gate game. Seems like BG2 and ToB did not happened. Meet Minsk & Jaheira as their poor BG1 selves but older. Viconia and Sarevok as their BG1 selves but with artifacts named after them. Main plot device is artifact left by a guy with same power (level 41) as your party at the end of ToB (lvl ~40), but there are no direct remnants, items or references in the game (except maybe one mediocre shield)
