Pretty, and fairly simple
It's a pretty and pleasant little game. I played for a bit, saved, and picked it up later or another day - that stopped it feeling repetitive. I also played on easy after a few attempts at the default difficulty, because I found that let me experience what the game offers without it overstaying its welcome. There were a few things that aren't explained - I had to go to an external wiki to find out how to choose which commanders to take on a mission, and the "rest" system when you have more than four wasn't clear at first. Basically, you can do two islands in a go if you split your commanders, though since I focussed on just upgrading my core four, I never bothered with that. The engine is really nice. They could sue it to rebuild the classic Spectrum game Cyclone, since it's based around small isometric islands. As I played I kept wanting some extra level of interaction with the pretty islands. Once each level begins you don't really have any time to appreciate them. It's no FTL in terms of depth or stories, but makes a pretty and unstraining diversion. If that appeals, then you'll enjoy it.
