Why buy on GOG.COM?
DRM FREE. No activation or online connection required to play.
Surprisingly running perfectly on my windows 10 machine bug free. A unique game that's about as gross, and weird as you'd expect for a game featuring a roach protagonist. It's a experience with the right amount of satisfying relusion, and unexplained mystery.
The first time I saw this game running was actually in a museum with an exhibition about bugs back then when the game was brand new. I always wanted to play it ever since but never got my hands on it, later on I got it on GoG.
Overall a pretty good exploration game. It's really well made if you take its age into account and has nice graphics and story.
What really miffed me was, that I probably found everything in the game but one unimportant scene and only because of that, I am not able to get the good ending. There is no indication what I might have missed and I've found more than enough to make it clear what I'm supposed to do, in what it will result and I've seen all (?) the information about his and his fathers past.
I finally decided against going through the whole game again to find whatever I might have missed
Spoiler:
only to be able to throw down the cigarette and see the ending where he rescues his father,

I watched it on Youtube instead...
This was the first computer game I ever owned, so playing it today was a pleasant trip down memory lane. It's as good as I remember it and it worked perfectly on my computer.
The only thing I'd change is adding subtitles to the cutscenes. As a non native speaker, some of them were hard to understand.
I have been waiting for this game since I first found about GOG more than a year ago. This is such a cult game, the story is out of the box, graphics and puzzles are well beyond its time, and still enjoyable now. Soundtrack and sound effects create such a great mood for the game which makes it more fun. This is one of the best adventure games of all times.
I heard a lot of good things about this game over the years, and I feel like they were all undeserved. Other than the impressive (for the time) graphics, which still hold up pretty well in the redux version, this game has nothing to offer, either in terms of gameplay or storytelling. The FMVs are charming, but the underlying plot is not a particularly interesting or clever one.
The gameplay is rudimentary, you can only move around to interact with the environment (by bumping into objects). In the game you'll play as a cockroach (or rather a human turned into one) and you'll navigate each screen to the next while avoiding the hazards here and there. Most of the times, you'll have to push items around to get past obstacles. A few of the "puzzles" are nicely designed, but the game has long chunks of nothing happening, and what little interaction there is quickly becomes repetitive. The nice graphics are also detrimental here, because getting confused as to what you can walk on and what not is fairly common.
The story is inspired by Kafka's metamorphosis, to an extent, but when you go for such oniric, surreal plots, you'd better have the extra talent to make them worthwhile, and this really doesn't show any genius. I am sure most will find the story predictable, and the long sessions of "gameplay" in-between to do a disservice to it as well. I say "long", but the game can be completed in under 2 hours, if you know what you are doing, so once you take away all the little annoyances which get in the way the first time around, you are left with a really short, barely there game. For all its quirkiness, the story is just mundane, the only slightly original part is in how it's delivered.
The overall presentation is good, but that's not enough to save the game. I am honest when I say this game is probably better watched on youtube, and only if you are desperately intrigued by the premise. The presentation is also the only reason this gets 2 stars instead of 1.
