Aven Colony

I like city building games but I found this game a challenge to learn how to play. The tutorials are almost simplistic and I find I had to go google search on utube how others played the game just to figure out how use certain functions. I hated it, then loved it and now just tired of it. Some things I never figured out. Like if I scroll the mouse too much or switch right to left I get stuck in satellite view and can't get back to normal view so I have to close the game and go back in. Also, when I first started out I loaded the game and started the campaign which is supposed to be a tutuorial but it didn't tell me to first go to the options menu to set up the keybindings(?) so then I got stuck in the first tutorial and couldn't go next and had to quit the game. Maybe more experienced gamers would already know this but as a newby it isn't easy to learn. Once I overcame a certain level of familiarity with the game I did enjoy the graffics but eventually became bored. I was constantly having to deal with spores and in game challenges that I didn't really want. I just like to build a city and watch it grow. I had the challenges turned down low but it seemed like it added on difficulties as the game progressed. Given how un-user friendly the game is I dont think it will be my go to game but that's just me. It has promise and more experienced gamers may like it but I wished I had waited and just bought it on sale or not at all.

I cannot wrap my head around how the ratings can be so lackluster. I was completely engrossed in the game within the first hour. The gameplay is perfectly designed to ease you into its features without overwhelming you all at once. No need for tedious tutorials - features are introduced gradually, and the narration provides dependable reminders in the beginning. I am easily discouraged by games where one dies/fails too easily or frequently, but the easier settings of the game provided just the right amount of challenge without proving demoralizing. The graphics are also gorgeous and contribute to a fascinating world-building. The storyline is intriguing and outlined in a way that does not distract from the otherwise fast-paced gameplay. This may well be my favourite game of all time.

I went in to this game not knowing exactly what it was going to be...I thought it might be the Surviving Mars type of game. But it is definitely more like SimCity except that I enjoyed playing this more than that last few SimCity games that have come out. My only advice is to play the first few Campaign games first...if you try playing a Sandbox right away (like I did), you will not know what the heck is going on! But after playing a through the first three Campaign missions, I am totally hooked on this game.

This game is quite good city building based in another worlds, planets. It has good points like managing city, sim like economy. There is one thing I very dislike: many quests in every mission are like: build 3 farms, have 100 energy, build some building etc.. Those quests are good for tutorials, not for every mission in campaign.

This is the most pleasant and comfortable strategy game I've ever played (I don't mean easy, no, and it gets more and more difficult as you progress). Tutorial is short and informative, you won't need to watch 3 hr youtube video to get to know the basics of the game, all is explained very well. The thing I like the most in Aven Colony is that you have all the time you need to build your own settlement, it's not a fighting-first strategy, where you need to fend off endless hordes of enemy and plan & build in between. Main challenge here is to plan everything very well in advance. Soundtracks are beautiful, it fits the game very well. 10/10 game, highly recommended
