Avadon: The Black Fortress

This of course is a personal opinion, but I don't care for this title. Not that if you like the genre, I wouldn't recommend buying it on GoG, but its not for everyone. Hopefully this is a simple rundown that will help you make an informed decision. Pros: For having a nice indie-low-budget feel, the environments and characters are quite detailed. The storyline is very in depth, and if you like reading your games as you would a fantasy novel, you will get right into it. Easy to start up and go: unlike some RPGs you can be into the game with very little nit-picking of stats etc. Very clean on every front build wise. I have it on Android and Windows, everything runs without a hitch. Cons: Loads of reading. I'm all for a good storyline, but I was doing way more reading then playing. Turn-based battling, with so much story detail, I would rather have the movement and battles real-time, to compensate one another. Slow progression makes for aggravation, and takes away from victories because of the all too common "Well, finally got there..." Overall: If you enjoy reading, and have unlimited time on your hands to truly become part of your RPG experience, Avadon is for you. If you don't like reading or want a game in which results of your actions can be seen near to the timeframe of when those actions were implemented, or want something Diablo 3ish graphically, save your cash for something else.

Game padding simulator. Bad menu controls and takes too long to do anything. No atmosphere what so ever. Games goes out of its way to waste your time in the starting area. Hardly a crpg, its just point and click nonsense just go read a book its about the same level of fun. Seriously generic , too indie for me.

The storyline is pretty engaging. The game itself is somewhat repetitious of many cRPGs I've played. The graphics are VERY reminiscent of Ultima Online. I'm not sure I would recommend this for GOG.

I already have this game. I purschased it in a Humble Indie Bundle. And played on its Linux version without a single problem nor for install nor for run it *(see above) And I could tell that, if you like isometric, turn based combat rpg's then you wold like this one. The graphics may apear a bit outdated, but have the essential you may expect for its kind. And the story had moments where its linear or so it seemed, but still at that times you have decision. In overall I think that its a good game. Not Oblivion like, but a good game. *For the GoG staff that could read this and still think that its traumatic supporting Linux.

I bought this a long time ago during a sale, and just got around to trying to install it. So I have a backlog, it goes back to my C64, sue me. Unfortunately, it's defective. Black screen, then locks up and requires killing it in task manager. Completely unacceptable for a paid game. Avoid Spiderweb Software games I guess. If I'd only tested it when I bought it, I could get a refund. At least I got it on a sale. Definitely not buying Avadon 3, or the millionth remake of the old Exile/Avernum series.
