Avadon: The Black Fortress

The writing is nice, and since you read this game more than a visual novel title that is a MUST. The characters and NPC's are dynamic. The intricacies of battle tactics is pretty much the same as all of Spiderweb's stuff. So if you've played Avernum, if you've played Geneforge, then you've played Avadon too. Worried about the choice of what character class to play? Don't worry, you get to have on your team literally any of the classes in the form of NPC's and you get to level them up and gear them. Their dynamism comes in the form of their own unique interactions and reactions with the environment, so who you choose to come with you gives you slightly different experiences.

The story is instantly engaging and the characters interesting. Each section of Avadon has its own unique charm. This game reminds me so much of 80's adventures like Rings of Zilfin or Questron. Highly addictive gameplay and very enjoyable.

One of my favorite games! Got it for linux! The depth of story is unbeatable by any other developers!

This another great rpg from the best rpg maker of all time. The only thing I dislike about this game is how zoomed out the game is, I'd have liked the camera to have been closer to the ground, this would make the world seem bigger. over all great music, sound, graphics and gameplay.

The best thing about this game is also the worst. Combat is spectacular, until you hit the endgame. Why? Because the writing and story are sub-par. It's a generic tale. NPC's all have the exact same style of writing (they all feel like the same person). Quests are run here, get that, with a few secret ones. Without a compelling story, there is only one reason to play this game.... Combat. There is literally no other reason to play this game (no secrets, no items, no events). It dies out halfway through the game. I would consider myself a completion-ist. If you are like me, then by the time you get about halfway through the game, you will have every spell, the best items, and there is really no point in playing anymore. You will destroy every enemy, wipe out every boss, without thinking. This game is no challenge if you just try to complete all of the quests. I give it three stars, because I had fun for the first half (about five hours). When I realized the game was just repeating itself and I couldn't improve my characters, I gave up.
