Roguelike RPG that looks like Fallout
I bought this game after playing through Falllout 1, Falllout 2 again. Since most people compare this game to Fallout 1 and 2 I will be using comparisons to those games. First off, the gameplay of this game can be compared to the Temple of Trials (tutorial) in Fallout 2 with random encounters. The VAST majority of this game is a (no guns) melee game. The random encounters are mandatory in this game versus Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 where you just ignore them (which is what I do). You will not level, get money, or new weapons if you do not do hordes of random encounters for tens of hours in the game. In fact, I would say 90 to 95% of the gameplay in this game is simply farming random encounters, hoping the RNG gives something that does not suck so you can progress the story. In Fallout 1 and 2, you would find enough ammo, guns, and items simply by playing through the story. In this game, I can recall only two items that were a reward for some quest or placed in a nonrandom location. Everything is completely random. You can start the game, find a caravan with the one gun and 500 rounds of ammo, or you can spend 20 hours getting nothing but corn and rusty knives. The piss poor RNG nature of the game extends to combat as well. Save scumming is absolutely mandatory because you can have the best armor in the game and get instagibbed in a single combat from starter weapons 10 to 20 times in a row. This was also true in Fallout but would ususally only happen a couple times per game due to critical hits, and the enemies required end game weapons to do it. I would say armor/shields are worthless in this game since they are easily bypassed multiple times in a round. Finally, you have to save all of your ammo for the last fight because you probably find less than 100 bullets in the entire story progression quests, unless you grind, grind, grind random encounters. If you like save scumming, random roguelike loot, and random combat then this game is for you.

A good painting but not a great one
Atom RPG is brilliant at finding its own soul, it's definitely worth a few playthroughs, although the dialogue is really a bummer at times I hope it will not be that way in future titles.
