Description
ATOM RPG is a turn-based post-apocalyptic indie roleplaying game, inspired by classic CRPGs like Fallout 1 - 2, Wasteland, Baldur's Gate and many others.

In 1986 both the Soviet Union and the Western Bloc were destroyed in mutual nuclear bombings. You are one of the survivors of the nuclear Holocaust. Your mission - to explore the wild and wondrous world of the Soviet Wasteland. To earn your place under the sun. And to investigate a shadowy conspiracy, aimed at destroying all that is left of life on Earth.

ATOM RPG is:

  • A powerful character creation tool, aimed at making the wasteland hero you want to portray!
  • A balanced roleplaying system inspired by GURPS. Each stat combination provides a unique gaming experience, unique dialogues, and new ways to solve some of the quests!
  • Dozens of skills, from lockpicking to gambling!
  • Many hours of gameplay on all sorts of locations. Meet the other survivors in a brave new settlement, built from the dust of the old world. Venture into the wilds, where mutated creatures and savage bandits lurk. Work out the secrets of an old military bunker. Or simply lose yourself, fishing at a scenic pond...
  • Turn-based combat, inspired by Fallout 1 and 2.
  • Random encounters with the dwellers of the Soviet Wasteland - both friendly and dangerous. Sometimes all at the same time...
  • Many deep, multiple-choice dialogues that feel like real conversations with the unique NPCs of the game.
  • Nonlinear gameplay! Dozens of quests, each with many alternative solutions. Play the game like You want to!

A Fun RPG Despite Its Shortcomings

As others say, an enjoyable sci-fi RPG in a sarcastic, Slavic-flavored Fallout. Deep character customization, a large world to explore, an eclectic cast of characters (recruitable or otherwise). A healthy selection of factions & numerous ways to resolve quests. For better or worse, it continues tropes & trends (good & bad) of games of this type: an intriguing story, a wide range of people & places (even if most are superficial or exist as setpieces), as well as unforgiving RNG & arbitrary game mechanics (though the game does make an effort to explain things). The game is very punishing at the start, even though I poured all my stats into combat, making anything more than 1 or 2 skills impractical (on normal difficulty) until I reached high level & was able to budget & save up for gear & recruit allies. Unfortunately, numerous skills & perks are so niche as to be useless since their application is so rare. This can be mitigated by designating specific companions to roles, but even meeting them is a task in itself. I almost quit a couple times about 5 hours in, but I'm glad I stuck with it to about 80 hours now. That said, the game takes time & effort to enjoy. Even though many mechanics & plot developments seem to work against its own fun, with patience, there's a lot of game to explore & fun to be had. At times, it was a real blast, but also I've played long enough that the shortcomings are no longer justified in my opinion to keep playing. For instance, friendly AI, though influenced by the player, is pretty stupid. It's nice to allow the player to give general orders, but it'd be more efficient if the player just controlled everybody. In its current state, the player needs to issue orders, reverse orders, re-issue orders in a single conflict because companions lack sense. Other issues, such as poison & radiation hazards, companions standing in the way, & more, aren't game-breakers, but don't warrant the effort to complete the game. I enjoyed my time here.

Fallout I or II clone?

Played all fallout games (beside 76 but that wasn't really a fallout game imo). This game have clearly taken insperation from the early fallout games and thats a good thing if you ask me - We need more of that :) If your into this game type I would recommend giving this a spin!

Modern Fallout 1 tribute from other side

I am giving it 5 out 5 because i enjoyed it more than once. But true grade is about 6-7 out of 10. A lot can be said about, so i'll be quick and state only what you absolutely need to know: - you most likely enjoy ATOM if you enjoyed Fallout 1 especially. If Fallout 2 is your favorite – still worth trying - game may seem too hard but it's mostly at start. It's wastelands after all - game has a ton of references and humor, but to get most of it you need some knowledge about late- and post-soviet culture - world is not very big and sometimes lacks choice. Still a lot of quests have more than two solutions - game has a lot of one time checks, gone for good if failed. Some quests can be gone too if wrong time/sequence. Still, nothing good old grind cannot fix - some quests have really harsh and/or unexpected ending. Makes you remember that it was you who wanted to play in post-apocalyptic wasteland - art, namely drawing and soundtrack, is relatively weak - game still has bugs and incompletes/things that obviously could be better. Some are fixed by mods, but - mods mostly hosted on steam. I believe it is not developers fault but it's still disappointing - developers team is international. I believe now you are ready. Go enjoy it. And yes, it is too dangerous to go alone. Take this Alexander the Brain Worm with you.

ATOM: Russian Fallout but way better

This game is great, its way more funny than any post apocalyptic story with alot of surreal and weird stuff in it. I love Trudograd and hope they make a 3rd game before S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is released
