From the creators of cult sleeper hit Scratches and the haunting Serena, comes a chilling journey into the darkest depths of your mind.
ASYLUM is an ambitious first-person horror adventure casting you into the hallucinatory setting of the Hanwell Mental Institute. As an ex-patient suffering bizarre visions, you must explore the intricate layout of the building, research its past history, and march towards a shocking conclusion.
With influences ranging from Peter Cushing to Lucio Fulci, ASYLUM has been meticulously crafted with a strong focus on storytelling and atmosphere. Visit countless tenebrous environments, make your way through a towering, lifelike mental hospital, and solve compelling puzzles to find the answers you seek.
We poured our heart and soul into creating an involving and endlessly rewarding adventure. If you love the kind of slow-burning horror with an old-school sensibility that creeps upon you, ASYLUM will be an unforgettable experience.
A mind-bending original storyline that we somehow managed to keep secret during 15 years of production.
Around 10 hours of gameplay — and that's without learning all the dark secrets!
An atmosphere so engrossing you will almost smell the stench of decrepitude and putrefaction around you.
Exciting challenges rewarding your wit and observation.
Memorable soundtrack inspired by 80s horror films and quite a bit of John Carpenter.
No jump scares! OK, maybe just a frightening handful that will hit you when you least expect them.
Diegetic interface and other buzz words.
Some texts in the game include references to physical abuse, sexual assault, and self-harm.
The game is like coming home back to the goold old times full of mystery/creepy point and click games. It is a classical point and click game (first person) with a good and simple gameplay. It is not a walking simulation like many other and modern games, so you play mainly with your mouse.
When you are used to modern horror games with jump scares and chasing sequences or hide and seek gameplay (e. g. Outlast, Alien Isolation etc.). It is more like "Darkness Within" or "Darkfall" or maybe like "Shivers" (my god, this is 30 years ago...).
Take your notepad out, pour some good old red wine and enjoy - it is definitely worth the price!
Very immersive detective game with very little handholding. Don't forget to take notes!
It is really great, I recommend it to all point&click detective enthusiasts out there.
I'm about halfway through my second playthrough and loving it.
Asylum deeply scratches the itch for immersive 3D point-and-click adventure games (e.g. MYST). Every scene has so much detail and shows subject-matter expertise.
I think this game redefines "environmental storytelling" - I've never played a game that used literally every item, event, and conversation to convey the mystery. For me the game really started AFTER I had completed my first playthrough.
I love this new game from Scratches devs- you can said it do sratches my itch for old-school adventure game ;D.
Anyway, this is what you expect from classic old school like Scratches- but with kind of ways to solve the puzzles and story are everywhere: from well-write characters, docs, and puzzles!
