Assassin’s Creed® is a game that redefined the action-adventure genre. With photo-realistic graphics, an advanced physics model, and a nearly fanatical attention to detail, this title was able to begin a new chapter in gaming history. However, the excellent technical aspects are only half of the reason why it became so popular; the other half is the story.
While you technically play the game as Desmond Miles, the main focus of the game takes place elsewhere. The year is 1191: Jerusalem, the middle of the Third Crusade. You are a member of a mysterious order of assassins where you have trained your whole life to do one thing and one thing only – to kill. The recently growing influence of the Order of the Knights Templar disturbs the delicate balance of power in the region and therefore directly threatens The Brotherhood. The clash of the two most powerful organizations in Jerusalem at the time has the most unexpected consequences and triggers devastating events that threaten the world itself, and you – Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad – are in the middle of all this.
Well-constructed story that will pleasantly surprise you many times along the way.
Impressive level of interaction with the environment – crowds react to what you do and act accordingly.
Open world gameplay lets you to decide how and when to achieve objectives, where to go, and gives you nearly complete freedom to get there.

The story of the game is pretty good, with some interesting plot twists, good character development, and so on. The graphics are descent for the release year. Now as for the gameplay in general, it is REALLY annoying. Sometimes seems like every single AI hates you, others the main character itself performs stupid moves that leads him to die in hands of the enemy, or by jumping to his dead.
Let's not talk about the hated by everyone "poor woman" character, or the crazy dudes that roams the streets, both only target the main character, and ignore the rest.
The ending was kind of a let down, but maybe when I play "Assassin's Creed 2", I will feel better about it.
At first it looked like you have to play a stealth game but in the late end game you just need to kill dozen and dozen for high trained warriors with no skill approach or strategy.
Using cheap tricks on my side, like getting up on a small platform and desperately killing 20+soldiers I've managed to pass a couple off these unfair fights but got stuck arriving at an impossible to pass point.
Don't want to spoil the story but gameplay wise, but you end in a small circle with 10+ difficult adversaries that spams you with low blows, throw you around, and hit you multiple times from many directions.
With my skills I've managed to kill two or three but that is about it.
Guess I will see the rest of the game on youtube because my patience has ended.
Maybe if you had the chance to play the game when it was released and a nostalgia factor is involved you may enjoy it.
As a new player that want to play the entire Assassin's Creed series from the start till the modern era, this game was frustrating, unfair and repetitive.
Honestly this game just isn't good.
Combat:
I played with an XBox controller, so I'll reference the XBox controls (e.g. X, Y, RB, RT, etc.) in my review. Very limited. Basically you just have to build up a combo by spamming the X at different enemies. If you see an enemy about to attack you, then hold down RB to block. If you were in the middle of an attack, then still hold down RB because it will turn into a counter attack. That's pretty much the entire combat system, no need to dodge, use throwing knives, etc.
AI:
The enemies are blind. Often I'd assassinate someone right in front of the guards, or start a fight within 10m of a guard and they wouldn't notice.
Audio:
- Why is Altair the only person with an American accent? It's just weird.
- The audio quality of background NPCs is dreadful. Sounds like they were recorded with a Yogscast 2011 toaster mic
- There were a couple of times where I couldn't hear the main person speaking simply because the background voices were too loud.
Parkour controls:
Not great. Altair seems to really like to jump on small ledges. Often I'd try to jump into a hay stack but instead he wanted to jump on the rim of the stack, which gave guards a chance to catch up with me. Often he'd jump off buildings in a different direction to what I'd intended, so he'd end up falling to the ground. A couple of times he'd jump off a viewpoint and fall to his death, instead of doing the swan dive.
Story:
Honestly who cares about the modern day story? It was such a vibe killer to go from running around rooftops and killing guards, to being forced to walk around a single room listening to some old geezer. Also what's up with cutscenes? You have to press a button at specific times just to see the cutscene from a good angle? Why?
Missions:
All the same. Go to region X of city Y, complete the same 6 tasks, assassinate someone, return to master. Absolutely no variation.
