Description
Assassin’s Creed® is a game that redefined the action-adventure genre. With photo-realistic graphics, an advanced physics model, and a nearly fanatical attention to detail, this title was able to begin a new chapter in gaming history. However, the excellent technical aspects are only half of the reason why it became so popular; the other half is the story.

While you technically play the game as Desmond Miles, the main focus of the game takes place elsewhere. The year is 1191: Jerusalem, the middle of the Third Crusade. You are a member of a mysterious order of assassins where you have trained your whole life to do one thing and one thing only – to kill. The recently growing influence of the Order of the Knights Templar disturbs the delicate balance of power in the region and therefore directly threatens The Brotherhood. The clash of the two most powerful organizations in Jerusalem at the time has the most unexpected consequences and triggers devastating events that threaten the world itself, and you – Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad – are in the middle of all this.
  • Well-constructed story that will pleasantly surprise you many times along the way.
  • Impressive level of interaction with the environment – crowds react to what you do and act accordingly.
  • Open world gameplay lets you to decide how and when to achieve objectives, where to go, and gives you nearly complete freedom to get there.

A timeless gem

I already played this game years ago when it first released, but being able to play it again in my more mature days, I can definitely say this game will have a special place in my heart. The graphics were amazing at the time and age very well, the cities already felt very lively with NPCs commenting every single move you make and reacting accordingly, and the atmosphere was spot on, especially with the soundtrack. The missions patterns where certainly redundant, but in a sense it added to the vibe "I'm an assassin and ma' job needs to be done son", with the aspect of contracts as a main story line. Overall it's not that bothering, but a little variety like out-of-contracts missions would have been the cherry on top. If you haven't played it, you definitely should, it certainly is a must play. P.S : the bonus file of the artwork needs to be redone, because some texts are visibly cropped, and some seem to be missing, as well as the bottom page indications (page n°, section of the artbook etc)

To put things simply...

The first Assassin's Creed should be regarded as a prototype. It introduced all the series' basic ideas before they reached the polish and near-flawless execution of the later games. Being a completely unique game, Assassin's Creed had little to draw from, and can't be blamed for its repetitive nature. But despite its various flaws, Assassin's Creed remains a classic for the sole reason of being a gateway to something greater. If your machine can handle it, skip this one and go straight to Assassin's Creed 2, where everything this game introduced is refined to a razor-blade edge.

Bought it for the soundtrack...

Seriously, I don't understand why Ubisoft doesn't offer the Soundtrack on Uplay once you buy it there. Anyway, the game is a classic, it invented the franchise we all love today. It had a lot of flaws. In fact a comparison to Watch Dogs would be quite fair. It's like they tried a lot of things and wanted to see, how everyone reacts, and fix the issues with the next installment. But even though this game is lacking a lot of things we learned to love with Assassin's Creed 2, it is a lot darker than the other games and provides a bigger combat and climbing challange, and therefore I appreciate it to this day.

Hard to believe this was 2008

Nicely mo-capped player character and horses, lovely maps, fun and simple combat. Parkour and stealth are fun. Need to push through the tedious opening tutorial scenes to get to the good stuff.

Proof Of Concept

Assassins Creed is not so much a game, than it is a proof of concept. The concepts its trying to get across are best left to you to find out, as they are key to the story in a way as well. The main thing you have to remember here is that this is the Directors Cut of the game. In the original, there were 3 tasks you did then you did the assassination. However, in the DC edition, there are an extra 3 things you can do, giving you six things to do before an assassination. However, you still only need 3 of them to actually do the assassination, so you can mix it up if you want. :) The other thing with Assassins Creed is that this is only the first game. Assassins Creed 2 is far and away a better game than AC1 ever was, so it is worth getting though AC1 so you can comprehend what is going on in AC2, as AC2 literally picks up where AC1 left off. To Conclude, AC1 is a good game, and worth playing once. However, seconded and third plays are probably not going to be.
