Description
Assassin’s Creed® is a game that redefined the action-adventure genre. With photo-realistic graphics, an advanced physics model, and a nearly fanatical attention to detail, this title was able to begin a new chapter in gaming history. However, the excellent technical aspects are only half of the reason why it became so popular; the other half is the story.

While you technically play the game as Desmond Miles, the main focus of the game takes place elsewhere. The year is 1191: Jerusalem, the middle of the Third Crusade. You are a member of a mysterious order of assassins where you have trained your whole life to do one thing and one thing only – to kill. The recently growing influence of the Order of the Knights Templar disturbs the delicate balance of power in the region and therefore directly threatens The Brotherhood. The clash of the two most powerful organizations in Jerusalem at the time has the most unexpected consequences and triggers devastating events that threaten the world itself, and you – Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad – are in the middle of all this.
  • Well-constructed story that will pleasantly surprise you many times along the way.
  • Impressive level of interaction with the environment – crowds react to what you do and act accordingly.
  • Open world gameplay lets you to decide how and when to achieve objectives, where to go, and gives you nearly complete freedom to get there.

To put things simply...

The first Assassin's Creed should be regarded as a prototype. It introduced all the series' basic ideas before they reached the polish and near-flawless execution of the later games. Being a completely unique game, Assassin's Creed had little to draw from, and can't be blamed for its repetitive nature. But despite its various flaws, Assassin's Creed remains a classic for the sole reason of being a gateway to something greater. If your machine can handle it, skip this one and go straight to Assassin's Creed 2, where everything this game introduced is refined to a razor-blade edge.

More fun with a controller

I haven't completed the game yet, but played a few times. I like the graphics and the physics in terms of movement. You are free to scale walls, jump from rooftop to rooftop... That's what I've been missing after The Witcher. The controls are a bit hard to remember, though. I hadn't played the game for a couple of months and was afraid to continue, because I didn't remember a single thing - all I knew is it was complicated and I'd assassinate someone when trying to sprint. But then I learned that this game supports the XBox 360 controller which I happen to have. And with that one it's a lot better, because the game actually displays hints with respect to the buttons on the controller, which isn't particularly helpful when you're using a keyboard. What's a bit boring is that you often have to walk around as the person you actually are in the present, and in this situation you walk really slow. That's annoying. The story isn't the best in the world as of yet, but overall I like the game. I probably wouldn't buy it for the regular price, though.

Great Game

I played this many times on the xbox. The game doesnt recognize a xbox one wired controller. the trigger buttons does not work. It initially but not anymore for some reason. I personaly liked Altair. He started off a jerk but eventually grows in chracter. I thought the story was really cool and interesting. Climbing buildings and fighting guards is always fun. Overall a great game, I would reccommend it.

Bought it for the soundtrack...

Seriously, I don't understand why Ubisoft doesn't offer the Soundtrack on Uplay once you buy it there. Anyway, the game is a classic, it invented the franchise we all love today. It had a lot of flaws. In fact a comparison to Watch Dogs would be quite fair. It's like they tried a lot of things and wanted to see, how everyone reacts, and fix the issues with the next installment. But even though this game is lacking a lot of things we learned to love with Assassin's Creed 2, it is a lot darker than the other games and provides a bigger combat and climbing challange, and therefore I appreciate it to this day.

Curious start for a landmark series

The first Assassin's Creed got great critical reviews for its exploration of the ancient Middle East and the factions fighting for its control, set across four or five major cities. Popular reviews were less accepting of it mainly because it was repetitive and, I hate to say, somewhat boring. I actually enjoy this game for its historical value. I'd never seen anything like it. It was stark and used a muddy palette of greens, browns, and reds, but that in itself was intriguing. Amidst all the darker coloring was a deeper presentation of architecture, religion and a plot linking the ancient past with a present day company using a man and his memories to find lost secrets. Best of all was that it was the start of something lasting, as was proven with AC2, where the devs started to find their identity and gave the game more life and action than AC1. For me, AC is more of an exploration of the past than an actual game. It has its moments in the main plot but the side stuff is less satisfying. All in all, for $5.99 it's worth a look.
