World war has been declared!
The Green and Tan nations have broken off peace talks. There is no choice but to prepare for battle/ Only after storming the shores of the enemy homeland, pushing through thick jungles, and securing war-torn cities, does the ultimate victory await. Dive back into the trenches! It's Real Combat. Plastic Men.
Wield a devastating arsenal of WWII weaponry including: grenades, mortar launcher, bayonet, howitzer, flamethrower, assault rifle, bazooka, and twin .50 cal. machine guns.
Command military tanks, jeeps, and PT boats when your situation calls for heavy firepower or added mobility.
A bug with mouse input is severly impacting my ability to play this and Army Men Toys in Space:
The cursor will freeze up anytime I move it too quickly. Forcing me to then hold the mouse still for about half a second before it will register more inputs. I tried limiting the speed the mouse cursor moves but it keeps happening.
I managed to complete the Campaign on Easy just to relive my childhood memories but it would be impossible to play at any higher difficulty with the input bug. Which is just really dissapointing. I just cant recommend this to someone who didnt play the game as a kid back in the day.
2K has retroactively changed their EULA. Now they collect literally anything on your computer (including but not exclusively visited websites or payment information for example). Not sure if they are also installing rootkit like software in the gog version like they do in non gog versions.
gog should consider banning all 2k games because I dont think that their EULA complies with gogs vision...
The Army Men franchise is known for a few things: short games, questionable fairness, and terrible pathfinding, and this entry goes out of it's way to remind you. I loved the Army Men games growing up, but this game seems like a desperate cash grab that was thrown together at the last minute from scraps of other games and rejected map designs.
I beat the game in just over 5 hours, even with multiple restarts. Once you get a tank, you can breeze through the rest of the levels without any real thought. In fact, you can complete some missions by driving from one side of the map to the other in less than a minute. If you want to try to play "fair" for a more authentic experience, good luck, because when the game isn't randomly dropping waves of enemies directly behind your troops, your forces will simply run in circles for several minutes trying to get out of their starting positions (the game will start your forces in a giant pile at the beginning of each map). For whatever reason, "Sarge" always seemed to control better than the generic privates that you would acquire in other games, and in this game you control ONLY the aforementioned privates. You will spend more time trying to get your men to walk in a straight line than actually fighting the enemy.
Some other minor complaints are the generic and repetitive missions (free the prisoners, take the town, take the other half of town, take out the artillery, take out the artillery and take the town, etc), the cringe inducing voice acting (your units will spout the same 3 lines ad nauseam to the effect of YOUR LEFT YOUR LEFT YOUR LEFT RIGHT, LOCK AND LOAD, TANKER READY TO ROLL) and the terrible, uninspired map designs (90% of the map is empty space that has been cut and pasted to fill the screen).
This game feels more like a clumsy bootleg than an official 3DO title. I bought this game for less than $2, so I can at least say that I got my money's worth.
