Full ending is locked behind a DLC wall.
The game is not worth purchasing for this fact alone until that extremely disturbing choice is rectified.

Mixed bag - will refund if not fixed
I saw all those one star reviews and thought: F-it, I take a look myself. Graphics: A blurry hell. The graphics would be very good, but look like rendered at 1280x720 and then upscaled to my large 4K screen. I can literally see scaling artifacts on non-straight lines (star effect). Menus are perfectly sharp. Playing in 1920x1080 makes the game look like 1024x576 upscaled. If a Titan RTX is not enough, then what? Sound: Is fine. Control: Is mixed. The layout is well thought, though the input delay is way too high (80+ fps at 4k with all GFX options maxed out), no matter what resolution of graphics settings I use. Gameplay: Up to now OK, just the tutorial and the "story introduction fight". IMHO the enemies are overpowered even at the easiest skill, and wait for you to hit a trigger point to appear out of nothing. So you have no chance to advance slowly and take them one by one. The weapon range of your starting gun in laugable - the enemies can hit you, but you cannot hit the enemies. Note to GOG: When will you allow us to edit our reviews when a game improved after a few updates? Or to fix embarrassing typos?

Decent game
Aquanox is a decent budget title. I have not had any performance issues to speak of other than the odd micro stutter here and there. The game supports my monitors recommended resolution of 3840 x 2160. The story is serviceable and the only real let down so far is some of the story dialogue while docked at the stations. The conversation writing is not the best. I cant help but feel it would have been better to slim this down. I am also not crazy about the main protagonist who is voicing most of the dialogue. He is an uninteresting character and so far as little personality beyond being the trigger finger. As to why they choose him remains a bit of a mystery when there are 3 other protagonists with you who seem far more fleshed out and interesting. I cant comment on where or how this game ties in with the previous 2 Aqua games. I remember so little of them. I thought this game was a soft reboot but it may be a prequel but probably a bit of both. As far as the games ending being locked behind some kind of paywall this is false. The video in question is a lore video extra explaining how the overall events in Aqua Descent tie in with the events in Aquanox 1 and 2 and maybe Archimedian Dynasty. Basically retconning all 4 games! However, because of the feed back due to the poor choice of words in the naming of the video and the misunderstanding that came of it, the developers are making the lore extra free for all purchasers. The reviews based on this are not very helpful. This could have been clarified with out leaving reviews that are solely about this rather than the game it self. The combat is good but not ground breaking. The game is, so far, mostly linear with some side missions and loot/ salvage collecting. The game does have complex maze like levels so dont go into it expecting that. However, undersea environment is very nicely done. Overall, the asking price is not too much considering what you get out of the game.

Mediocre but nostalgia buy
It is a bit buggy, keeps crashing on me way in the beginning and is surprisingly hard when not crashing. Also, the ending will be made available for free for everybody. Ultra Wide-Screen works just fine for me in 2560x1080 (21:9). No idea what people are moaning about there. Also, this game, EVEN WITHOUT THE IMMEDIATE 10% price reduction STILL costs about 50% of what most other games are being sold for on release! And they had a budget of what? 75k or so? Even games for 750k and more are bad on release in many cases . . If you never played Schleichfahrt/Archimedian Dynasty or the other Aquanox Games WHICH WERE ALSO MEDIOCRE AT BEST . . you will not understand people wanting to see Aqua again.

Lacking in some points, feel it has hope
No joystick support, can't remap keyboard keys, it's there but you can't change it or at least I can't, there is no support page on the website that I can find. The game is good, needs more polish on some things but the UI to me is good, keyboard and mouse control are good, if only I could change them it would be better. As others on the Internet have said it feels like a early 90's game with NPC interactions. For the most part I like it, just wish I could get a support link to tell them what doesn't work.
