Description

Aquanox Deep Descent is a first person underwater vehicle shooter, in which players control a variety of customizable ships to engage in fierce battles in the dystopian deep sea world of Aqua.

In the near future the Earth's surface has become uninhabitable. What remains of humankind lives in former mining and research stations, deep below the surface of the sea. Born and raised in the only world we know, the loose network of underwater settlements, torn by the war for resources and dominance between various factions.

Take control of a team of highly trained fighter pilots and experience an epic story in the dark world of Aquanox. Send your enemies down to Davy Jones' Locker with well-aimed torpedoes, shrapnel blasts, mines and more in a journey that takes you across the world's oceans and into the deepest trenches of our Earth.

  • Fight - Action-packed vehicle shooter combat that supports a wide variety of play styles
  • Co-op - 4 player drop-in co-op, with four unique pilots who are all involved in the game story
  • Customize - Choose and upgrade your ships, making them fit your preferred playing style
  • Explore - Discover the deepest corners of the ocean
  • VPP - Classic multiplayer modes like Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch Dogfighting

The Original Series

Aquanox Deep Descent is a re-imagining of both the gameplay and world of the original AquaNox-series. The Aquanox-series has its roots in the game Archimedean Dynasty (German: Schleichfahrt), released in 1996, which was followed by AquaNox in 2001 and AquaNox 2: Revelation in 2003.

All games are vehicle-based shooters set in a dystopian future where mankind has had to flee the surface and live in underwater stations in the oceans.

The AquaNox games were powered by the groundbreaking KRASS Engine that lead to the popular benchmark AquaMark.

Could have been much better, but <3 VR

Huge disappointment to the legacy of the old AquaNOx's developed by massive Development (or "Archimedean Dynasty" as some might remember the first game by, still under MS-DOS, with its original titel being "Schleichfahrt" in German, also developed by Massive Development, published by BlueByte - those were the days!) Emerald "Deadeye" Flint \o/ The "AquanNOx" follow-ups were already only "hmmmm". This one is the most mediocre one. Granted, visually more up-to-date and running on newer platforms. But Unreal Engine does not guarantee a game-success! It doesn't live up to the expectations and hopes that the fans had in regard to the legacy. It is NOT the shining grand child that stands as a reminder and monument to the glory of old. (Plus the asking price is insane for a failed attempt and the years it already shoulders). BUT ... I would still pick it up on a huge sale. If only for a complete collection. But I ALSO hear it works very well - astoundingly well so even - with VR! With a VR headset, this would definitely go to my small selection of games that stand out and deliver a joyful VR experience.

Most engaging game in the series to date

Well, to me at least. I own a copy of this game on Steam and I played all the way through it upon the release. I initially hesitated before picking it up because I found the first two Aquanox games super disappointing (my first-ever purchases on GoG, by the way!). But after finishing Deep Descent, I was definitely happy that I gave it a shot anyway. I found this game to have struck the perfect balance in the mission length and variety, as well as in-between-mission dialogue scenes, which provided the right amount of exposition and world-building without wasting too much time on badly written idle chatter. Deep Descent was also the first game in the series in my opinion, where the developer really managed to create an immersive sensation of piloting a combat sub. Unlike the previous two games, which just felt like space shooters with a tacky underwater theme that barely did anything gameplay-wise to capitalize on their unique setting. In Deep Descent, I actually felt like I was trapped deep beneath the surface of the ocean, with the crushing weight of the water pressing down on the hull of my ship like a colossal vice. The action also felt pretty satisfying and the aforementioned variety of objectives and solid pacing always kept me engaged in the gameplay. Clearly, this is not a high-budget game so don't expect any lavish production values, captivating storytelling, and motion-captured voice acting. But visually it looks pretty nice, it plays well and has a great atmosphere, and it's sure to keep you engaged from beginning to end. At that price point, I think it's a solid game to have in your collection and a definite upgrade over the previous games in the series.

Deep Sea Ties

It appears thus far to be loyal to the setting as it was back in the older games. I look forward to seeing where this takes me.

Fun enough but could have been better

My biggest issues are that every single control has to be used to get through specific areas or you won't be and there's no 3D map so its easy to get lost vertically.. The game is so hard if you don't use everything that you will rage quit. Indeed, I even forgot things and had to learn other things and then the game was easier. I don't like doing things that way. Some of the story could have been easier to follow. But, its fine enough. I don't don't like characters that have no moving mouths and the cutscenes here but got it on deep sale and the rest is good enough that I can overlook it. Overall, I had plenty of fun and finished the game. Not bad

Read what the Devs wrote before rating!

I don't own this game but I felt compelled to say something as several users rated this game with 1 star based on false pretenses. It's not true that the end is locked. If you read what is said in the "extended ending" section, it clearly states that it is a bonus video, not the end of the game. So, you may buy the game with no issues. If you dislike the game, then rate it according to the game's shortcomings or values, not by hearsay.
