I happen to own a physical copy of this one. The new graphics are superb, the soundtrack is excellent, and the extras... oh man, the extras are unbelievable. Chahi even mentions being influenced by Dragon Ball when creating the game!
unfortunately, some games ages pretty bad and Another world is one of them, maybe even a primary example of it.
It offers unique ( at least for its time) gameplay that rewards the memorization of enemies and traps patterns over.. well, fun.
Basically it put memory over skill, and if that has gone well in the past since it was a unique experience, in today's standards it's simply horrible.
On the other hand, the method used to tell the story, art, and overall design is truly amazing and it stimulates you to complete it, but even that can't stop the frustration and boredom.
However, still worth it to check it out as one of the videogame history masterpieces (for its time), at least to experience the feeling to be stranded in an alien world (the game doesn't tell you anything, which is actually good for the story in general).
On the side note, it is worth to buy it just to see how far this industry has evolved.
Another World is a truly interesting game. In a time were high scores ruled games, Eric Chahi thought "what if a game was more like a movie?", and so Another World was born.
This is one of those few games that can be considered a game or even considered 'interactive art'. The emotions that Eric manages to evoke onto the player without a single word ever being uttered, and with the relatively simple graphics is downright masterful. And even to this day I've never felt a connection with a supporting character the way I did with 'the alien'. Despite there being very little to flesh out his personality, the events in the game have caused me to really consider him a friend, and I always hoped to see him again.
This was probably the first game I ever played to cause tears in it's ending, not that it's a sad ending per se, it's just 'beautiful' and very emotional.
This is a game that will never age, because it's artwork is masterful, the music (especially in the anniversary edition) is amazing, and the story telling remains unrivaled even today.
GOG is awesome. I always feel this game is oddly missing from any "Best Games Ever" lists. I played this game on SNES in my youth. I first saw Out of this World, years before SNES, on a PC display when I was really young. Why can't some developer make a new one?
I'm pretty sure a game called Fade to Black has something to do with the developer(s) of Another World.
I have noticed that that this version doesn't have music like the SNES version.
Another world was the game that inspired a myriad of platformers such as the critically aclaimed Flashback by Delphine software. This graphically improved port plays exactly the same as the original but with a vastly improved visual experience. This game is not for those who do not like a challenge, most who have played this wonderful game have failed to see it to it's conclusion but that is not to say that the journey is not a very rewarding one.
The protagonist is teleported to a strange alien world where he is quickly taken prisoner. He escapes and is constantly on the run with a companion whom he helped escape. You must solve puzzles and react fast and intelligently to the problems presented or face quick death.
This ladies and gentlemen is one of the classics that began and defined a genre.
