Euro Masterpiece

This is a great game... assuming you're from Germany of from close enough to Germany to share a common cultural heritage and tradition. Look, I'll be honest here. If you're from Europe this game is probably going to hit you right in the "feels". It's a powerful dose of nostalgia to all those stories you were read or told when you were a little kid. The problem comes the further away you get from Germany, the main source of the folk tales this is based on. If you're from Europe, you're probably going to be familiar with enough of the source materiel to enjoy this, if you're not, well, the game can appear rather nonsensical. This doesn't mean the game is bad, it merely means it's made by a certain culture mostly for itself and related cultures. This is the product of people that grew up with German folktales and the target audience are frankly people with the same background or those aware of said folktales or related ones. This of course doesn't mean the game can't be appreciated by someone who has never heard let alone read The Brother's Grimm, it's just that you are unlikely to get the same enjoyment out of this as someone who has and for whom the game is pure nostalgia fuel.

29 and I Still...

... believe in fairy tales , Thanks to the games like these. I dont think because a protagonist is a child is meant to be for kids only. Far from it. If a had children I certainly recommend it for them because it blends many fairy (grimm, folk tales) characters and elements in that game, which for a young folk could be familiar. Not to mention I really enjoy this game. Daedalic guys are doing a really great job. Among Chains of Satinav, Memoria, Night of the Rabbit, Deponia, this is my next favourite. A beautiful story Not just for kids!

Fun game but not a real heartbreaker

Second Daedalic entertainment game I've played. The beginning of the story is pleasant and give to the player the desire to see what happen next in the game. The puzzles range from easy and evident to moderatly difficult. Graphics and musics are in the theme. The dialogs are really well tought out. The end of the first part and the second part of the game are way much darker. The last part is disappointing because the story who is centered on the main character moves on the secondary characters and we feel much less involved in the story. The end seems to me sloppy because there is no real conclusion to the quest that our character has undertaken. "It's all arranged and that's all it is". Generally this game mix strong points (beginning, music, dialogs, graphics) and weak points (ending, one or two puzzles).

Charming and enjoyable

Having not been much of a fan of Deponia, I was a little dubious diving into another Daedelic adventure title. A few parts feel generic, flat, or forced as in the aforementioned title, but at least for me personally, this game succeeds far more with its attemts at charm - most of the time, in fact. Contrary to my expectations, I really enjoyed this game. The story has a classic fairlytale feeling to it - thought without spoiling anything, the final chapter has some pacing issues. As far as what actually happens, I think the ending is solid - it just has a very slow build up to a very abrupt conclusion. That bit of jarring pace aside, I think the story is a good one and the characters are fun to interact with. Like many point-and-click adventure games, this one does involve some hot-spot hunting and obtuse puzzle-solving; if you're a fan of the genre it's nothing you haven't seen before. If you're down to go on adventure with a sharp little girl, this one's totally worth it - especially on sale.

Masterfully Written

This is a surprisingly deep Point-and-Click Adventure. From the very beginning, it becomes clear that it's aimed at a younger audience, but the story is the kind that makes more sense on a second playthrough, because there are so many elements that are not what they initially seem. The ending is also very good, even though it didn't end quite how I wanted it to. Tonally, it wobbled a bit more than it should have now and then, but it wasn't wildly inconsistent. The characters were great, too; Anna is a lovely, innocent, very demure girl. For some reason, though, my motherly instincts didn't quite resonate with her, like they usually would with this sort of character. The voice acting was mostly very good, but - a minor gripe - there were a few mythological references that were pronounced incorrectly, but only by some of the characters; others nailed it completely. This is hardly exclusive to this game, either, so it remains a minor gripe from a mythology buff. The visual style is enjoyable, and works well with the style of narrative, but occasionally fell right on its face when something that was supposed to be majestic looked overly cartoony. The game's biggest flaw is its puzzles. I've seen quite a lot worse in the genre, for sure, but there was the occasional moment where I exclaimed, "How was I supposed to come to that conclusion!?" Often, there seemed like many logical solutions to a puzzle, but there was only one, and it was often the least logical. Their biggest problem, though, was the heavy narrative focus; even if you already knew the solution to a puzzle, the game would throw up a wall between you and its resolution until it wanted to you solve the puzzle. As I said, though, they weren't terrible by any means, and a walkthrough is a simple enough solution; you at least couldn't screw yourself over because of something you forgot to do 3 chapters ago, forcing you to start over.
