Welcome to Anachronox, an abandoned alien artificial planet at the centre of the universe, now home to lowlifes, thieves, and scoundrels. Here we join Sylvester "Sly Boots" Bucelli--a down on his luck PI--and a cast of 6 other unlikely heroes on their quest to discover who or what is trying to destroy the universe. They are the only ones that believe it is happening, and the only ones that can do something about it.
This title is a very unique game in many ways. The combination of jRPG style turn-based combat, extraordinary characters with their own personalities, an epic and brilliantly told story, colorful graphics, and absolutely hilarious humor is something very rare. You will travel through galaxies, explore bizarre planets, and journey through space and time. There are no easy choices in this game, no obvious, predictable events, no black and white characters. This complexity made the game well reviewed--it has showed up on PC Gamer's Top 100 PC Games list three times!--and will keep you fascinated and amazed for many hours.
Great mix of Japanese and Western style RPG elements with great humor, a gripping story, and a very unique cast of characters.
Excellent storytelling via professional-quality cutscenes and dialogue will accompany you through the entire 50+ hour long adventure.
Huge world to explore with many secrets to discover and mysteries to solve. One playthrough is, by far, not enough to see it all.
This game has captivated me so far, it's one of those things you see a screenshot and know you need to check it out. It's a great mix of JRPG/WRPG mechanics in a cyberpunk world. The dialouge is consistentally funny and gives a real reason to click on everyone you see. The combat is slow at first, but will pick up as you aquire more and more memerable characters. There is also a lot of point and click elements that blend in well with the game, (and they even give the mouse a diagetic reason to be there.) I would check this one out as soon as you can!
This was certainly one of my all time favorites. I still have the CD knowing I would play it again and again. While time has passed and I have moved on to other adventures seeing this added to the GOG family has brought back the fine memories and sparked my desire to play again. Thanks again GOG! I hope System Shock is in the works! :)
I found this game in a bargain bin a decade ago and I have never regretted it since. I replay the game every 3 years because of the excellent humor and story. I sincerely hope a sequel comes eventually, or at least a book that shows what happens next! My favorite character is Boots' robot buddy, PAL-18.
This was a game that admittedly I was not aware of before seeing its debut on GOG. Being a fan of turned-based RPGs, I gave this game a chance, and was surprisingly delighted. The story line was well written, the gameplay simply laid out, and the humor, an element which makes the game most memorable. Having played this game twice, I find it well worth the money.
I felt the game was pretty decent, if you don't mind the blocky graphics, and the slow combat at times it is easy to lose hours playing this game. I did it myself trying to work out a few of the clues to progress the game.
Bad side was that it seemed to drag in the last quarter of the game. I just wanted it to end so i can put it behind me. I didn't bother with grinding or getting everyones top weapons and skills.
But all in all, a game well worth the money
