You can’t let out a breath. The creature is only inches away. Its sole purpose - to feed off your terror. And so you crouch in the dark, trying to stop the fear rising, trying to silence what lies within you.

“I know you. I know what you're capable of.”

In Amnesia: Rebirth, you are Tasi Trianon, waking up deep in the desert of Algeria. Days have passed. Where have you been? What did you do? Where are the others? Retrace your journey, pull together the fragments of your shattered past; it is your only chance to survive the pitiless horror that threatens to devour you.

“Do not allow yourself anger, do not allow yourself to fear.”

Time is against you. Step into Tasi’s shoes and guide her through her personal terror and pain. While you struggle to make your way through a desolate landscape, you must also struggle with your own hopes, fears, and bitter regrets. And still you must continue, step by step, knowing that if you fail you will lose everything.

Metroid: Other M

PRESS X TO CHECK THE BABY! Alright now to actually right this review I went into Amnesia: Rebirth having played every single Frictional Games title to date. To me, SOMA was peak Frictional. It had an interesting story that stood on its own, a great setting, few gameplay interruptions, but most importantly, It had characters that I understood and cared about. This game had none of those things I feel like I couldn't walk 10 steps without some sort of interruption. I couldn't really get immersed because my character couldn't shut up about THE BABY, and don't think you can just ignore that, because the game will be absolutely sure to remind you that it exists, even during tense moments when you're trying to hide from a monster Now the characters. I couldn't get invested in them at all. Most of them were so unimportant to the story that I forgot about them until they were brought up again. Not much to say here Now the story. I felt that at some points, it really tried to ride off of The Dark Descent. To be fair, you didn't need to know anything about it to get by in the story, but there were times when I swear I could hear people saying "I SAW IT! I SAW THE THING FROM THE FIRST AMNESIA!" There was not too much of this, but it was enough for me to think "really?" Overall, I put this game above A Machine for Pigs, but worse than the Penumbra series

Three major shortcomings

Really likes Dark Descent. Although the walkthrough wasn't that fun (as many other horror games), it always keeps me playing. But this one is a total setback from Dark Descent. The biggest problem is that too many characters are involved, but none of them seems important to the plot. Even the protagonist and the big villain can not make me feel concerned. The mythical and supernatural elements in Dark Descent are cool, but this game contained too many such kinds of stuff and depicted them in a too detailed way. The results are not cool anymore, but confusing and boring, sometimes even ridiculous. The monsters are also too normal, feels like they can appear in any other games, which certainly not meets the Dark Descent standard. Some interesting enemies showed in the very late of the game, while they posed no real threats at all. There are still many other shortcomings, but I think these three are the biggest ones. They have made this game feels like A Machine For Pig without good writing. If not unexpected, this could be the last game of the series, it's a pity that the Amnesia universe just ended like this. 总体评分:三星 目前不推荐(—_—||)

Its not Amnesia

My wife keeps reminiscing about that time 10 years ago i crawled into our bed at 2 am and cuddled tightly with her, whimpering "theres something in the water...". She will not reminisce about anything from this game, as i was not scared after the desert fort. That desert fort from WW1 era was amazing. Very exciting to explore, and scary moments. But we soon left that sort of gameplay, and went into some LSD trippy worlds and dream sequences. The portal jumping was very disorentating, and i didnt understand much of the story at all. Still after completing it, i have little insight in what the events in Amnesia was caused by, what the blood fungus is, or well, anything. I kept playing this game with a feeling of disdain. Sort of, disengaged and unenthusiastic. Always hoping that the ugly second world would come to and end, and the game start to be engaging. It never happened. After completing it, im actually kinda pissed off. This is not an Amnesia sequel at all. Its a pregnant lady walking simulator.

Very, very entertaining (and scary)

This is a ruthless and frightening game. Possibly Frictional Games' best so far in terms of ambition, design and plot. (Not necessarily their most streamlined one, that one would be "Soma" and that's why it's still so popular). First of all I would recommend playing it with a DualShock controler or similar. The fear and the "safety"/"health" system works much, much better when you can feel it with your own hands. Secondly, it may not be obvious at first glance but the several stages of Tasi's adventure/progress are expertly designed and well-thought. I wasn't able to grasp the whole thing on my first playthrough due to the effin game being so demanding and brutal. After finishing and reflecting on some levels you can understand when is it that you were supposed to feel danger, when is it you were supposed to feel wonder, when gloom or sadness... and it worked every single time /scene/reveal. Some plot twists are like nods to other games and films. This old school, almost literary feeling doesn't bother me at all: the game is so frikin scary and violent that these clichés may come as a short-lived relief in an otherwise dark, utterly terrifying game. On the other hand, it's not true that you cant die in this game : if you die you actually lose the opportunity to "solve" a puzzle or to survive to a chase, so if you want to see the whole game you'd better buckle up cause it's not going to be easy. With its blend of different genres (sci-fi, adventure, HORROR) "Amnesia: Rebirth" is a mature, demanding game that marks a new and welcome stage in Frictional Games' evolution. It is definitely one of those games that demands several playthroughs to comprehend and absorb every layer of gaming experience and plot that are happening at once. All in all, a very satisfying experience. My 2nd playthrough was more unsettling than the first, and also more enlightening. The more you fear, the more you know. There's nothing else I can say.

Good, but Amnesia:TDD is still unmatched

Third entry in Amnesia franchise, Amnesia: Rebirth has much more focus on narrative than Amnesia: The Dark Descent. Although a direct sequel to TDD, Rebirth addresses nothing about the aftermath of characters Daniel, Agrippa nor Justine, instead expanding the lore regarding Alexander's race and Vitae exploration. The protagonist while extremely well voiced, is a saint compared to Daniel or Oswald Mundus. The fate of her crew is mostly predictable, and the impact of the plot falls very short compared to TDD and especially SOMA. The 3 endings are decent but underwhelming and short. While the outdoor ambients are very ordinary (wasted opportunity to make deserts scary), the interiors are as excellent as ever, being very well designed and intimidating. Sound design still top notch, and the Musical score still amazing. The gameplay is, while tweaked, still way too similar to previous games from FG. In 2020 this is no longer tolerable. While the monsters are grotesque, the enemy encounters are surprisingly rare and while most are still scary, they are much easier to escape than Grunts and Brutes from TDD, I never died in the whole campaign. Some items are overused (matches and lantern) but others are very wasted, especially the Traveller's amulet. Not to mention the wasted opportunities to use different items in Alien World to survive and navigate and Matches from different sizes. The puzzles are still there and overall are still very good requiring you attention to surroundings. The Fear mechanic is similar to Sanity from TDD, but now instead of hallucinations the vision darkens and flashy images appear as annoying jump scares. While there are obvious evolutions over TDD, Amnesia Rebirth failed to elevalte Horror as TDD did. Decent narrative and great ambience, but underwhelming challenge and Horror. I do not regret buying it, though.
