I kind of got these in reverse order. I picked up Alien Shooter 2 Revisited a few years ago. It's the best in the series by far. Alien Shooter Revisited is basically this game with a facelift, a bit harder. I wanted to try this for the expansions I didn't get in Revisited. Unfortunately, they're not worth it. The Fight For Life is the better of the two, but all the new furniture tends to get you and aliens hung up on things. You'll also spend lost of time just luring aliens into shooting each other to save ammo.
The Experiment, well it's fun if you want to kill enemies with massively underpowered guns, such as level 1 w/ only handguns and limited shotguns...so it takes forever and is boring. The next level in the school, well I gave up after trying that once. For a couple bucks, the first game is good, but if you're just interested in the expansions like me, I'd say pass. They were more disappointing than the quasi-expansion Conscription which was a real fuster cluck.
I would have to say for the amount being asked for, this is not a bad game at all. You slay hordes of aliens which progressively become stronger and faster. Luckily between sessions the player gets to used money found in-game to buy loads of weapons, supplies, and ammo. Use the WSAD controls to move and mouse to spray and pray. Fun game and not perfect by any means. The mechanics of movement are a bit goofy at times, but the sheer amounts of goop and gore make up for it.
Need to kill time?
This games is for you.
Alien Shooter wears it's history on its sleeve. From the limited number of animations, shamelessly reskinned enemies and identical backgrounds level after level, it's easy to see that Alien Shooter was not made to be a blockbuster. It's production values are pretty low- usually you can overlook them, but there are times, such as the rotating turret, where it really stands out.
But you're not playing this game for production values, you're playing it for some fast paced action, and that Alien Shooter provides with surprising competence. There are a decent number of levels, and a good number of weapons and enemies to mix things up. I found my older weapons became obsolete extremely quickly, but granted the nature of the action, that's hardly surprising. You'll plow through wave after wave of enemies, until you either die or reach the finish.
At which point you'll stop. Alien Shooter doesn't even have a save game option, I think because the developers realized (as you will) that this is not a game you're going to come back to. You'll play it over a slow lunch break or to kill some time before something good on TV, but the second you close the game you'll stop thinking about it.
Having said that, I like Alien Shooter. It knows what it is, and does what it does very well. Go in knowing that, and you'll find a great time killer. Recommended.
Elaborate graphics? Nope.
Gripping story? Wrong place, bro.
Stunning gameplay? Bwahaha.
No. This one is plain simple, gory fun. And I mean, FUN, with all caps. It is the perfect cruise control for your mind: just sit back, shut your cognitive functions off, and disperse sweet, mindless vengeance upon - literally - thousands of enemies with crazy weapons.
Levels are linear.
AI is non-existent.
You'll likely to shut off your speakers after level 3.
But it is like a pizza with salami, or a Big Mac. There's nothing subtle about it, there are better stuffs for your health, but sometimes it is all you need, and then, it feels damn nice to have it around.
