WARNING! Original Agony is only included in completely outdated version

This package includes AGONY and AGONY unrated. While AGONY unrated imo will always be the better version some might consider getting the original AGONY along with it as a bonus. Unfortunately this is not the case. The (original) AGONY version the devs provided to GOG is the very first release they ever made of the game. Since than it has received several patches on other platforms ... but not on GOG. So on GOG the game remains almost unplayable starting with the extremely bad and much too dark lightning. You won't see much and you will constantly die just because the lightnng is conpletely broken and you fall down. I contacted Madmind games and I contacted GOG ... no reply and no update. AGONY unrated does not have the problem of being broken and is perfectly playable. I actually liked playing AGONY unrated but I am also anoyed that a part of the package GOG and Madmind is trying to sell here is simply unusuable even after complaining about it. So I decided to give the whole package a rather bad review in the hope the devs will change theitr minds eventually and update GOG as well.

Beautiful walking sim, terrible controls

I don’t support censorship in video games, even if it’s just a mild tweak in a remake/remaster, so the fact that Agony Unrated is allowed to express itself is awesome. I accidentally installed Agony (Censored) and played it for about 30 minutes before realizing I was playing the nerfed version, and then I installed Agony (Unrated). I’m glad this happened so I could see some of the quality of life gameplay fixes they added in, the addition of a mini map alone was a huge improvement. If gameplay is all you care about, then Agony is going to leave you sorely disappointed, this game is basically a walking simulator with a little bit of awkward combat thrown in to spice up the walking. I did like how the Button Puncher controller layout I use in Halo Infinite to throw grenades (LB) is also used to chunk demon babies in this game, demon baby chunking never felt more natural. I really did enjoy the beautifully sick and twisted universe that this game takes place in, but every time I started to get really into the game, the terrible controls would pull me right back to reality.

An unpleasent experience.

Lets start with the good: The Atmoshpere. The settings of hell looks incredible and the scenary is stunning. The vast and colourfull background make this game a sight to behold... However, there arent really moments where you can just stand still and take in the stunning art and detail. You are constantly on the run to the next object, searching every detail for secrets or hiding from monsters. On the moments where you do get stand still and take in the enviroment, it is shut down by the lack of eviroment, since most of the time that you arent being chased or otherwise, you will be in a tunnel or equally confied spaces. This is a huge flaw. Now, the gameplay, might be worse I have ever seen in a video game. So far atleast :P. The gameplay is walking, now that can be fun, platforms and all that right? However the 3D platforming in this game can be nasty at times, as an example, there is once scene in an ice vally where a massive monster is chasing you, pretty cool right? However the running sequence is very buggy, you jump to a platform and get glichted on the terrain and respawn. Then you gotta watch the cutscene of the monster chasing you again and again... I probably failed this 10 times before looking up a walkthrough (skill issue fr). You will not be able to clear this section unless you jump at exact right time and conserve you stamina in the exact right places. If you dont, the monster gets you and you have do it all over again. Lets talk about the graphics. Someimtes the game looks beautful and sometimes the lightsources collapse on each other creating a strobing effect. Collectibles can sometimes be very hard to see in this enviroment, unlike for example Elden ring, where items are lit by a single light, here items have a shine to them, meaning if the enviorment is the same colour as the object then its like looking for something in camo in the woods. Interactibles dont work unless you are at the correct angle, you can glitch on the terrain... 1/5 dont

Janky to the point of almost unplayable

I love the concept of this game. I love the setting. I also don't mind stealth exploration games. I CANNOT Recommend this game The setting of Hell is apropos, as attempting to play this is indeed Hell. You character moves in a jerky motion sickening kind of way. You also spend half of your time getting caught on random geometry. Oh, a little mound of dirt? STOP RIGHT WHERE YOU ARE! I almost forgave it until I was nearing the end. Spoilers ahead for those who for some reason care about such things: You end up in a canyon getting chased by a giant demon. The mechanics of said chase are fairly easy to understand. When I get to the end where i'm supposed to be safe in a cave, it just plays the cutscene of the demon killing me anyways. I thought "Maybe i'm doing something wrong?" and looked it up on YouTube. Nah, Im doing the chase right, the game is just bugged out and won't let me progress. Uninstalled. I made around 20 attempts, all ending the same way.

Worth it for the visuals

10/10 for the visuals. This is a delightfully twisted corner of hell you get to wander. I'll never forget seeing little demon babies used as mortar in an infernal bricklayer's wall. SO COOL! Everything about this game visually is amazing. The tough part is sticking with the gameplay long enough to see it.
