  • Through numerous and intense battles, make your heroes work together using group skills.
  • A skill tree will allow you to change the skills of each of your characters. Find the best combinations to take full advantage of the possibilities of your group as a whole.

A pure tactical game.

If close quarter team tactics is what you like, then this game is perfect for you. Without too much fluff you will get to command a growing team of heroes that tries to make sens of the massive changes that struck a fantasy kingdom. You will get no useless walking, no pointless NPC quests, no boring fetch, escort, kill x units, talk with y then come back, stuff. Instead you will get non-stop action, one fight after another. As your team grows you will get new and unique heroes with new abilities and new game play mechanics. Each time you get a new hero you may want to explore it's capabilities, see how you can use his or her powers in the best way or you can simply choose to ignore it and use the heroes you already know. As the game progress it will get harder and harder. Your skills and knowledge of the abilities will be tested and you will have to adapt to new challenges and situations. Some maps seem impossible to win, yet, after a while you discover new methods to use your heroes, new ways to improve your damage or mitigate the enemy damage and so on. It is a hard game that will challenge you. My only complain is that sometimes on higher difficulty maps, some heroes are a bit useless and you are forced to play with the ones that you dislike. I guess that's part of the "adapt to new challenges" thing but personally I wanted to win all the maps using only my favorites, unfortunately this is not a viable option on some maps.

Enjoyable, simple and subtile

Take old good classic RPG (Baldur's Gate, Planescape) and keep only the fights: with simple basics concepts, options are multiple and keep you in control of the way your crew can combo. Free respec of skills and subtile variations on their effects = a game you can love.

Unpretentious tactical squad combat

Tactical, squad-based combat with basic rpg elements (builds and equipment). Good range of characters to make up your squad. Dialog can be clunky but in many instances is quite funny and intentionally so, especially the idle character lines, it's worth leaving the party standing there for a bit just to hear it :) If you're looking for more than great squad combat, then there are other titles that offer it. This isn't Dragon Age, it's Aarklash and it's awesome. Oh, and the difficulty can be cranked to "Aaarrgghh! Make it stop!" if you are that way inclined.

Plays well and that's what counts.

A game with tactical fights and a pause button which you MUST utilize or you will get utterly destroyed. Avoiding damage areas and projectiles or planning your moves, basically impossible to play in real time. There are 8 characters in total from which you can assemble a team of 4 (you get the last one at the beginning of act 2. You have two characters of each, Magical damage, Tank, Support (healing) and Physical damage. But you can assemble any team you want and take 4 DPS characters if you want. Every one of them has 4 skills which you can upgrade and early on, pick from a branch which focuses on something else for the skill. You can freely change this any time you want to fit the situation if you wish. There are loot drops. Every character has an Earring, Amulet, Ring and Relic slot. They just give generic stat bonuses and you should just take those that fit what you are going for with the said character. They are completely random though, so I recommend saving before every chest and reloading until you get something good. You can also scrap items and after a certain amount, an item of the highest quality will be created. Again, save before getting the item and load until you get a good one. I played on the hardest difficulty and some fights were pretty challenging. You have to learn the enemy abilities, prioritize enemies and counter what they are doing. There are some cheap encounters where enemies spawn behind you and such, but those are fortunately not the norm. With proper tactics and positioning, you will prevail. Sometimes, you might feel forced into taking certain characters because of the enemies you face. In Act 3 for example, enemies spam healing. One of your characters has a healing reversal that changes healing into damage. I just had to include him in the party or the enemies were basically unkillable. It has a story but nothing stellar. I give it a 7/10. A nice 15-20 hours experience for the connoisseurs of tactical combat with pause.

Nice Time Sink

I like this game. It's not massive, it's totally linear and the story was probably thought up in half an hour but it's still a pleasant experience. I find myself hoping they make a second one after looking in forums for feedback on how to improve. Unfortunatley, i don't think it quite fulfills either of the game steroetypes genres that it could be considered. RPG, minimal story, limited character equipment, no wandering/exploring, no random npcs apart from cutscenes and they usually end in a battle against said npc. No conversation choices etc. As for a tactical game, the enemies can be challenging the first time you meet them if you're not paying attention to skills. If you are paying attention to what they are doing you probably won't have much difficulty if you've ever experienced tactical games or MMORPGS raid tactics before. It's like a mini, strategy, MMORPG group with tank, healer, dps taking on groups of enemies but i liked it. The only thing i found that started to piss me off was each 'sections' taking too long in my opinion. You have a simple task of getting somewhere or doing something which your instinct tells you will take two zones then a boss battle maybe - but when you get to the third and still haven't got to where you're going you start to wonder how many more you need to do.. It's like someone saying 'location, location, location, location' .... the 4th just seems awkward to the ears.
