Follow the grim tale of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo, in a heartrending journey through the darkest hours of history. Hunted by Inquisition soldiers and surrounded by unstoppable swarms of rats, Amicia and Hugo will come to know and trust each other. As they struggle to survive against overwhelming odds, they will fight to find purpose in this brutal, unforgiving world.
1349. The plague ravages the Kingdom of France. Amicia and her younger brother Hugo are pursued by the Inquisition through villages devastated by the disease. On their way, they will have to join forces with other children, and evade swarms of rats using fire and light. Aided only by the link that binds their fates together, they will face untold horrors in their struggle to survive.
As their adventure begins… the time of innocence ends.
I'm not sure people critiquing the gameplay has finished the game or do they just like games that you point then shoot.
This game has a unique gameplay that evolves into something quite memorable.
I'll admit, the pace of that evolution can be slow at first, but by the end, it's awesome and intense.
Using a controller is a bit tough, but keyboard and mouse will make the gameplay smoother.
Aside from gameplay, everything else was super well done as well. The ambiance, the visuals, the friendship, the voice acting (both in english and french).
Overall, memorable game, worth playing!
If you are interested in games where the well created story, almost book-like, is the most important aspect of the experience while being still an action/stealth oriented, this is a game for you.
Story itself is a very dark one, but with many heartwarming moments. All characters are very well crafted and believable so you will sincerely care about them, even though sometimes their choices will irritate you. Still, you have to remember that all of them are kids with stolen childhood living in the Middle Ages with people dying everywhere around them. They need to learn quickly how to survive in those horrible times, but this is part of the experience.
Graphics and sound are amazing here, to the point that sometimes it can REALLY creep you out. Visiting old mannor in the second part of the game was terrifying.
My only gripe related to this game is the lack of 3D sound in the game. With 3D sound it would be even better with those rats screeching in walls and people dying while being eaten by rats and sickness.
For me, the main character, Amicia, joined to the Geralt and Senua's party of my favorite game characters.
To sum it up and not spoil too much, if you like play games that make you feel melancholy, relief, sadness, horror and at the same time make you care about characters you need get this. I had a luck to buy it with a great discount thanks to GOG, but this game is easily worth buy, even full price.
I recommend it so much.
A Plague Tale Innocence is a very unique game, and quickly became one of my favorites. Gameplay wise it is a lot of fun (although it might feel repetitive for some players at times) and if you are not a fan of stealth focused gameplay this one in particular will not change that.
Now, the big star of this game is the story and the characters, particularly the protagonists, Amicia and Hugo De Rune. These two carry the game and fill it with a lot of heart. You will quickly sympathize with Amicia and her plights, and grow fond of Hugo the first time you see him. Both characters, in my opinion, work fine separately in their respective moments, but it is when they are together that A Plague Tale Innocence really shines as the very unique game that it is. This is the game that introduced us to a very particular and heart warming picture. Each time you see a teenaged girl holding hands with her five year old brother looking down a beautiful paradise or a bloodied battlefield, you will know this is one of the Plague Tale games.
Their relationship is what makes this game so special and beautiful, and their acting is very convincing. The fact that the developers used a real life teenaged girl and a real life boy to play Amicia and Hugo respectively also helps since the characters feel authentic. We all adore Bart Simpson, but he's never sound like a boy. Hugo, however, does, and that improves the character greatly.
This is a game that you should play if you care for story driven experiences, and if you are close to your siblings, particularly sisters or kid brothers, you should play it with them since the game serves as a sort of tribute to both of them.

Graphics, music and voice acting are really good and very well done, some of the best I've seen. Some characters are good, some are bad. Personally I was really annoyed by the boy. And it's all kids with superhuman abilities, which is a bit implausible. But what really ruined the game for me is the gameplay and mechanics. You're dying constantly because very often the game forces you to do things different from what it has teached you before. And that is just bad design if things which worked before suddenly doesn't work anymore because the game wants you to do something else. I finished it because of the story, but I was very very frustrated doing so. Ultimately: not recommended.
