Follow the grim tale of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo, in a heartrending journey through the darkest hours of history. Hunted by Inquisition soldiers and surrounded by unstoppable swarms of rats, Amicia and Hugo will come to know and trust each other. As they struggle to survive against overwhelming odds, they will fight to find purpose in this brutal, unforgiving world.
1349. The plague ravages the Kingdom of France. Amicia and her younger brother Hugo are pursued by the Inquisition through villages devastated by the disease. On their way, they will have to join forces with other children, and evade swarms of rats using fire and light. Aided only by the link that binds their fates together, they will face untold horrors in their struggle to survive.
As their adventure begins… the time of innocence ends.
A plague tale innocene is an excellent game. It's well write, acted. Looks fantastic and builds nicely to a dramatic if frustating finally. The battle at the end was my one grievence with the game. not sure why but it was an excercise in frustraton for me.
The main characters are very well fleshed out to the point there journey and bonding feels believable in context of the story.
I can't recommend it enough for those that like stealth base games. Try the demo if you can.
...because I didn't, and now that I do... I couldn't care less about it. :)
Don't get me wrong, the 3 outfits are lovely and the DLC says exactly what it contains, no overselling, and the price is modest at best. AND YET I decided to buy it - why would I? Well, not for what it is, of course, but rather to show that I care about the game - I bought it, like, 75% off, having heard some positive things about it but not expecting much. Boy, was it suprising when I proceeded to fall in love with this small and yet so lovingly crafted experience, janky at times but captivating for the whole run.
A Plague Tale: Innocence is not the best game in any category (though solid in most, in my humble opinion) but the attention to constructing a very defined experience has hit JUST the right notes with me. This might not be a useful opinion piece if You are considering buying it, considering that so far I wrote nothing of substance (and it's staying this way, I ain't going critical here after giving 5 stars :b), howewer I want You to know this: if ANY aspect of this game caught Your attention - give it a try. You might enjoy it, you might not (than it's modest lenght will be in Your favor); but maybe, just maybe, You will feel the magic of this world, so grim and dark, and yet so full of hope and determination for better tomorrow - exactly what I felt when playing this. :)
So, why did I brought ut that DLC thing earlier? As I said already, I got the game cheap, so for me it was a way to symbolically pay for it a little more, and more importantly to say Thank You to developers at Asobo Studio.
So, this time directly, Thank You Devs and everyone involved in production, for delivering a game that deeply resonated with me. I wouldn't dare asking for a sequel of any kind, ya'll are surely busy, but if anything was to happen... well, all I'm saying is that one customer wouldn't be waiting for 75% discount this time. ;)
This game reminds me why I don't like console games.
Your progress is only saved at certain points, no freedom to save where and when you want.
The available actions you can take like sneak, you have todo stuff this way, autoaim that, if you fail, here is the savepoint. As a PC player it just gets boring fast.
And there is not much of it. It's more like a limited set piece you walk along the NPCs to watch a movie.
The story is what makes it worth it. Good characters, good narrative, dark and atmospheric sets but not much what I would call a game.
The title says it all. You are not here for the gameplay. You are here to enjoy watching the hunger games. I honestly don't know why they didn't reduce the ratings of this game to 12+ because yeah there is a good amount of gore, but the subject matter is not in any way bit harder than anything you find from a teens first dark novel series. Wait I know why, because age ratings increase sales the higher they are when it's not being developed for the Nintendo.
Does it do what it does well? I say fairly. Graphics is pretty enough for the time, voice acting for all three languages is pretty good. Writing and Story is what you expect, like, come on.
Gameplay wise: Stealth is iffy, the sling is painful at times (especially late game, heavens help you). WALKING SIM.
2 stars is what I rate this. It's a playable experience, and for those of you who are new to games, found this site named GOG and decided this is the game for you since the only media that you have ever enjoyed during your time being alive are YA media, than this is a 5 STAR experience!
For me however was hoping for something horrific, got teen drama instead.
