Follow the grim tale of young Amicia and her little brother Hugo, in a heartrending journey through the darkest hours of history. Hunted by Inquisition soldiers and surrounded by unstoppable swarms of rats, Amicia and Hugo will come to know and trust each other. As they struggle to survive against overwhelming odds, they will fight to find purpose in this brutal, unforgiving world.
1349. The plague ravages the Kingdom of France. Amicia and her younger brother Hugo are pursued by the Inquisition through villages devastated by the disease. On their way, they will have to join forces with other children, and evade swarms of rats using fire and light. Aided only by the link that binds their fates together, they will face untold horrors in their struggle to survive.
As their adventure begins… the time of innocence ends.
I wanted a game where there was a good story line, drama where you get anxious and have a challenge from time to time, but not so hard you get frustrated and get tempted to cheat (YouTube video walkthroughs, etc) or just shut the game down all together. THIS IS IT! And the fact that you play as Amicia is amazing, love when female characters are used. You also get to control Hugo at times as well! There's cut-scenes for sure, but they are short and well-done, building up to the final moments of the game. The characters are flawed in the best way and likeable. I'm on the lookout for another game similar to A Plague Tale: Innocence though the bar has been set pretty darn high!
GOOD JOB, Y'ALL! <3
I am well into the game and so far, it plays identically to the new Tomb Raider. In places to a point of essentially copied level design. It is a little cringy when you meet the rats for the first time, but once you suspend your belief sufficiently, they become a fun mechanic.
Surprisingly, it plays better than the last Tomb Raider. Cut scenes are kept short, trophies don't break the immersion (they actually add to it) and there are none of those other immersion breaking nonsensical challenges.
I've bought it at 16 EUR price-point and I feel verry happy about it. Also, the kid is fun to have around. I mean... yuckyduck?
If you are more into polished gameplay mechanics more than a great story, substract 2 stars. You'll then get a very linear and mediocre stealth game.
BUT! If you can enjoy some wonderfully created locations and you let the game flow while you hold its hand... you're in for a wonderful expirence. Graphics are breathtaking, locations as well, but even the most beautiful of them are in direct contrast with the dark story. It's almost like night and day - beautiful locations are soon "beaten" by a terrible expirience of your protagonists. The story narration is just epic, you can look forward for some nice plot-twits. I immidiately fell in love with Amicia and I was worried about her little brother Hugo all the way. Bravo!
I really liked this game, the story, the dialogue and the atmosphere are all quite engaging. There are some set pieces and story points that I'll cherish for as long as I can remember like pushing the cart and the sacrifice of the blacksmith. The game mechanics are quite basic though.
Didn't experience any technical issues on a fairly recent rig.
