A story simply told
I stumbled across To The Moon when I was in a rather bleak point in my life. Something about the music and the simplicity of the tale, how Goa was able to convey so much more emotional depth than any game I'd played before really ripped home and put me in a right tearful mood. I still get misty eyed when I hear "Short Steps" come on my iPod. A Bird Story is a sort of miniature pre-sequel to a much bigger game, but this time it makes efforts to pull at the heartstrings without uttering a word. As always the soundtrack is superb, and the RPGMaker-like graphics do nothing to take away from the charm. The story of course, is what you're going to be experiencing, as there isn't much gameplay. To The Moon was often criticized for the lack of gameplay elements, but there were still mini-games and little mysteries to solve that engaged the player in some one. Bird Story is in a few ways a step back, as there is barely any player interaction. There are a few scavenger hunt moments you can have and a moment where there's a button prompt or two but mostly, its just you walking around and waiting for the story to kick in. This is where my feelings split; I know its a miniature prequel, and I do enjoy the story, but once you play it that's it. The 5 dollar price tag is a bit hefty for the hour's worth of content you have here, and that is where I will say I'm glad I got it in a sale. I enjoyed it, it left me with a smile, and it makes me want more. As a bridge between To The Moon and FInding Paradise, this is serviceable and pleasurable, but I feel it's best purchased during a sale. It didn't catch me as much as To The Moon did, but as an experimental silent narrative I think it did splendidly. Give it a shot if you'd like!

Friendly game for young children
I played this with my 5 year old daughter. Because there is no dialogue she could perfectly understand the story and she was very engaged into it (as was I). She played through the whole thing with only a couple of directions given by me. This was a great father-daughter time. I love playing these kind of video games with my kids.
