Not a very good RTS

Forgettable story, terrible AI and frustrating pathfinding. The novelty in this game are the cards which you get on regular basis and which you can use on the battlefield. They give you resources, cause a huge explosion, give a boost to your own troops or make enemy units attack one another. It's a neat concept, but highly imbalancing, as you can destroy your enemy's entire army with a single card. The graphics are neat and smooth, though. Skip this one, there are far better RTS games on GOG.

Horrific AI pathfinding

This game bombed not because it's competition was the stellar C&C, but because it had atrocious pathfinding. It was so terrible it might be more correct to say it lacked pathfinding and the units just wound up at their designation any way they saw fit to do so, regardless of anything in their path, length of the route, formation, terrain, well, sometimes they just meandered around as if the destination was optional, or as if to say they'll get there when they get there, if they even decide they want to get there.

Not quite as fun as I remembered.

Ages ago I played this game repeatedly, and back then I loved the graphics and the way you used action cards in combat. My memory of this game was really joyful so lo, and behold, I bought it! Sadly I found it hadn't aged well. Not only does the graphics seem really aged, but the gameplay is not what I remembered either. Unit control is hard and unresponsive, often units will even ignore direct fire orders, or stop all over the map. This is not what I remember at all. Worse yet for me, the graphics seem a lot less clear, not only blocky, but units seem to be greyer and less detailed than I remember. The game is still there, and the action cards are still a key feature and make up for some of the rust. I still enjoy the walkers and the atmosphere, though again, not quite what I remember. In the end, I can't quite recommend this, unless you, like me, really remember this game fondly and want to have a go at it again.

Barely playable

Bought this one purely out of nostalgia, turned out it is way worse than I remember it to be. Controls are extremely clunky and unresponsive. AI is barely there, it has huge pathfinding problems and struggles even with simplest orders. Unit-to-unit and faction-to-faction balance is non-existent. The way requisition-based income is implemented is not making any sense at all. And the bare minimum of a cliche-ridden plot this game has is not even worth mentioning. The graphics and CG movies are decent for the time but that is the only good I can say about this game. Avoid at all costs, unless you want it purely as a collector's item or your nostalgia-induced urge to play it is completely unbearable.

Bad game

This will be a chaotic review... Pathing is bad. Your controlled units are very dumb, making it hard to make your units move or attack as they get stuck constantly. Keep in mind that we got Age of Empires the same year... But what makes it really bad is the stupid card mechanic in the game. You can spend 5 minutes building an army just to lose it all in 1 second with AI dropping some cheesy card. The missions are ridiculous... For example, the second mission... THE SECOND MISSION of the game for the Chosen faction is almost impossible to win. You literally have to cheese the game by moving the tanks to the top of the island to bug out the 7th Legion army to even stand a chance of beating them, and on top of that, once the enemy has 2 mechs left, they drop a ridiculous card on you, causing all your remaining units to lose 90% of their health (Keep in mind that you get no cards, you have to collect them, but in that case, forget about collecting anything). It's not even a 'get good' scenario, it's just a really badly made mission. But enough complaining about just one mission. A lot of them are like this... Honestly, they should have never introduced cards into the game. Attacking the enemy base is also frustrating... By the time you destroy the barracks, they build a power plant, you destroy the power plant, and they build barracks again. My point is that you can build structures too fast, making the game longer and more annoying for no reason.
