Part 1 of arcade epic 198X. A coming-of-age story told through multiple games and genres. Experience the thrill of shooting, driving, jumping, fighting and role-playing in 5 full-blown arcade stages – combined with cinematic pixel-art storytelling.

Welcome to Suburbia, just outside the City, sometime in 198X. This is the journey of Kid, a teenager stuck between the limitations of innocent youth and the obligations of inevitable adulthood. The story unfolds when Kid discovers the local arcade – finding new worlds, and new meaning, in video games. For every visit to the arcade – every game uncovered, every move mastered, every demon defeated – Kid grows stronger. And the lines between game and reality starts to blur…

This is 198X – where a new life is just 1 credit away.

Great vibe, a little too short

This is just too close to heart, great game if you remember and can appreciate games from 1980s. Big thanks for people who made it!

Straight to the heart

A beatiful experience while doing a trip into the past. Graphics are well done to get you there, story is what it matters. There's no need to make a good game too long, for me: it lasts enough to be appreciated, not too long to be boring. Nice job here, whish there will be more.

Would not recommend

Cool asthetics, nice atmosphere, but the games themselves—or the imitations of games—aren't fun to play. What you get is the bare minimum to even speak of gameplay, and with bad controls. I also found the writing of the interludes to be annoyingly cliché. Pseudo-deep teenage nonsense, really.

Nostalgic and sweet

This is a nostalgic story about nostalgia and retro-gaming. It is a mashup of 5 types of games and all of them are quite fun, all of them on a wonderful melodic backdrop that sounds like a Lana del Rey song meeting The Breakfast Club narrative. You can almost taste it. The games are never boring, quite fun and quite short. Controls are never amazing, but they get the job done. One of the games frustrated me to death because of the horrible controls, but most of them were alright and enjoyable. Play this if you want a quick recap of your childhood games... if you are born in 198X, of course.

An ode to the 80's

Dear developers: Please make more of this... I'm throwing money at the screen right now. Also, the music was amazing!
