Irresistably drawn
I am not Asian or Canadian. I would not describe myself as political, I understand these as being advertised draws. Mattered nothing. I played this late into nights when I had to go to work the next day. The graphics were suitably not-obvious-voxel-artificial, the music was occasionally just wrong enough to be intriguing as was intended. Could argue that this had less game-mechanic than it did story; but there was enough game-mechanic to still feel like a game and the story was *compelling*. The world was surreal enough (which made sense when the reveals happen) to be Different and Not Your Normal Reality. And I came to hate the lovely characters who did evil things. And be sad for the reveal of the fates of some characters (whatthejesus, Bobo, seriously?). Before understanding the setups of "Communion" (and that's as much as I'd spoil), not entirely sure who I was or who I'd be in the next stage. And if anything, makes you understand the crushing weight "Forty-Eight" must have felt; and saying that, just the thought of the crushing weight she was under when she BEGAN. And when it's time to make Choices For The Future... it's interesting hearing the analysis of those choices; like your own brief personal psychoanalysis, just that little peep of insight into yourself. There was one single speed-run game-mechanic that required gamer-skill, but even that was doable by a relative novice like me. Again... as a game it was more engaging than a visual novel (so I dispute the people who say it would be better as just a visual novel); and the story was surprisingly deep and engaging. I understand there's a plushie (no other figurines?) available... I wish I knew there were a movie or a book (sequel? Intermediate parallel story? NO FOR THE LOVE OF GODS NO PREQUELS PLEASE!), I would sink some cash into that. The game ran very well on my nVidia GeForce GTX1080, running on unmodified non-Protoned WINE yes on Linux. The suggestions of "should play with a controller" can, as others have said, be ignored entirely. The only thing I suggest is on multi-monitor machines (especially with WINE on Linux) is to have the window capture the mouse. Control will be extremely whack if the mouse leaves the border of the screen. ... I already wish there were a sequel game (even if the story as presented and finished... makes that almost non-sensical). Or, DLC. Or... something. As it is, I'm here looking at what else Sunset Visitor has put out.
