I already reviewed the two "Battle for Middle-earth" games separately (see their individual pages for details), but I am voting for this one because it includes the "Rise of the Witch-King" expansion for "Battle for Middle-earth 2". This expansion improves the game enormously. :-) As for "the Battle for Middle-earth" games? There is so much to cover! The first game, LOTR: Battle for Middle-earth, allows you to play as members of the Fellowship as well as Rohan, Gondor, Isengard, and Mordor. Like all RTS games, you can build a base, train units and try to take your opponent's base - but there is much, much more to this game. You travel through Middle-Earth, seeing the sights and getting attacked by your enemy (and you can play either the "Good" or "Evil" side). The attacks come relentlessly, so almost from the start, the game puts you under pressure. It's up to you to resist the attacks, drive your enemy back, and go on the offensive -- either to free Middle-Earth from Mordor, or to crush it under your armoured boot! :-) In "Battle for Middle-earth 2", you can explore what happens in Middle-earth while the Fellowship is off doing their own thing. There are more factions (e.g. Dwarves, Elves, Goblins etc.), and you can also hunt for Gollum and use the One Ring to ... whoops, I won't spoil it. :-) In the expansion, "Rise of the Witch-King", you travel back to the Second Age and see the rise of the Witch-King of Angmar. You might remember him: he fights Gandalf in Gondor, and slays King Theoden, only to be slain by Eowyn and Merry. But who is this enigmatic figure, and where did he come from, and what did he do before the War of the Ring? This expansion answers your questions, and is very fun too. In short, I recommend this game very highly. Two thumbs up, way up!

Unfortunately, this game can't be replaced. This is a great wound in our hearts. A AAA quality remake is our biggest hope. What I saw on the screen when I used that 10 level ability for the first time after leveling Gandalf to 10 was priceless.

this goes for hundreds of dollars on ebay and these games are not available on any digital storefront. You have to use cracked version files for the game that people have shared online with big community made patches to get it to work or have a windows XP PC for the first game and a windows vista pc for rise of the witch king. This game is being lost to time because it isnt on any digital store not even EAs store.

Combining LOTR and CnC was amazing for me when I played it. I felt like I was playing more than just the trilogy but actually participating in it. I was a kid so my imagination might have overdone it a bit. I still love the memories I got from this game and would really like to be able to play it again some day.

Theses games are so unique and difficult to install on modern computers. Having a revival through GoG could mean a revival for mods and community-made ressources for theses awesome games !

Voting for this because it includes the expansion, Rise of the Witch King, as for a younger me who thought he knew everything about LOTR, having something that acted as a prequel to even the hobbit was a surprise and exciting story to watch play out as I played the game.

Playing this game is a pleasure for me. I lose myself while playing the game. Only those who experience it know this pleasure, it is indescribable. Playing a game of a movie you love to watch and feeling like a member of that world is an undeniable pleasure. I hope we will have the opportunity to vote for the Rise of the Wicket King game.
I use to play Battle for Middle Earth II with my xbox 360 years ago, but i always wanted to play the first game and the expansion. I hope we have the chance to play them.

When I was 16 years old, I played my first ranked matches in an online RTS, and I was instantly hooked. I absolutely loved Helm's Deep—whether defending or attacking, it was the most thrilling experience I’ve ever had. No other game captivated me in the same way, not even classics like The Settlers 2, C&C Red Alert, Age of Empires, or Empire Earth. The excitement and immersion I felt while playing Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds SAGA were unparalleled ,Then a few years later LOTR: Battle for Middle-earth released. And it was over with me and my Reallife... a bit later LOTR: Battle for Middle-earth2 with ADDon ....My Heart is pounding. For over two years, I dived deeply into ranked online matches, and I still cherish those memories. I even have all the original CDs for the games that shaped my gaming journey. Unfortunately, my LOTR: Battle for Middle-earth II CD is scratched and no longer usable. Without the main game, I can’t install the expansion either. To make matters worse, I lost the account where I activated my key and played the ranked matches. Childhood is a treasure that stays with us forever (sry no nativ ENG speaker)

This edition really needs to come out. I've already commented on both version of the game. As said its sad that you must pirate the game to be able to play and enjoy it. It would be nice to support the game. Games like this always need to be preserved and remembered. So many should be able to experience this game with ease.
