Shadow of Destiny

Shadow of Destiny (2001)

by Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, Konami
Genres:Adventure, Puzzle
Themes:Fantasy, Historical, Mystery
Game modes:Single player
Story:Shadow of Memories (Shadow of Destiny in North America) is an adventure game. There are no action elements in the game, and the protagonist has no health bar. Each chapter has a time limit, during which Eike has to find a way to prevent the murderer from killing him. This is mainly achieved by traveling through time to different hours, days, years, and even centuries. Obtaining a crucial item, having a conversation with a specific character, or performing another action in the past will prevent Eike from getting killed. Time-traveling requires energy units, which can be found by exploring the town. If Eike fails to achieve the goal at hand within the allotted time and prevent his murder, the chapter must be restarted. During the course of the game the player will have several choices and opportunities to change the future in various ways. Due to the time-traveling feature, many objectives can be accomplished in non-linear ways, branching the storyline and eventually resulting in eight different endings, six of which can be achieved during the first playthrough, and two others unlocked after having reached the other six.Show more

It's one of those games that's just... So unique and particularly interesting that hey, I'd say without a doubt, that there's no game like Shadow of Memories, specially today. It's weird, strange, even stupid at times, but it's also fascinating and really, really funny.

Love the time mechanic in this, especially for the time. How completing actions in the past changes the future! It gets super weird but interesting, there was a ton of endings too.
When I was in school, a friend lent me this game for the ps2 saying that there was no fighting and that i had to use my wits to go ahead. I was used to only RPGs and fighting games, so this was quite the experience. It's one of a kind game, where your choices really change a lot in the game. There is more than a way to solve chapters. There isn't a morale system, but the games shows you the consequences of your actions and even if you can travel in time, there are things you cannot change.

I think I hired this game from the video shop for the PS2 once a very long time ago and played through it over a few days, but then over the years I completely forgot it existed or that I ever played it until a few days ago I came across it again and reconnected with the distant dreamlike memory of this unusual game that consumed my life for a few days.

Never forget, buying this game for around $20 USD at a Mall for the PC, as soon as it hit this price. One of my favorite adventure games and one of the most underrated of all time, IMHO. Without giving away too much here: you are killed and are brought back to life & brought backwards in time, all to try to solve your murder and unmask the murderer. Choices matter and the game has numerous endings - but this game's built in such a way to get the most understanding out of the entire game is to try and earn every single solitary ending b/c of what it's trying to do and say here, without getting into Spoiler Turf. There's also a timed-mission mechanic and you have you to do whatever the task is/tasks are & make decisions in a certain amount of time, too. This is also an early type of cinematic-style CYOA (Choose Your Own Adventure) game before TellTale with Jurassic Park & The Walking Dead Seasons and also Quantic Dream's Fahrenheit. Must play stuff.
This is simply an unforgettable game and one of the most unique ones I've ever seen. It's the kind of game that even if you lose the details over time, you can't get it out of your head. randomly think about it all the time. I have the discs for this game but haven't been able to get them to work with modern OSs. There is an interesting time mechanic, branching storylines with multiple endings, and your choices REALLY matter. It gets a little weird and even to this day feels somewhat like a fever dream to me.
My parents would watch me play this when I was little, and help with puzzles, but not without letting me try to figure things out by myself first. They were impressed back when I figured out certain puzzles all by myself. The game holds a special place in my heart, for all the good memories that comes with it.
This was one of my top games I played when I was young. I picked it up on a whim at K-mart or another generic store. The voice acting and story still IMO is one of the best to this day.

This game was a thrilling adventure. I never knew that it has multiple endings. I could never forget Eike Kusch name for years and always remembered how scaring Homonculus was.

Freelancer
FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.

Black & White 2
Black & White 2In the game, the player takes the role of a god called from the void (nothingness) to help those who invoked them. However, the player is not an omnipotent style god, but rather a god who rises and falls with his believers and the player must help develop their nature according to their good or evil desires. The player also has a creature, their physical representation in the world, which takes the form of an anthropomorphic ape, lion, wolf, turtle, cow, or tiger. Its physical manifestation can grow to an immense size, and adopt a good or evil persona separate of the player's. They develop their character as the player rewards or punishes their actions. In addition to the god simulation and city-building elements introduced in the original Black & White, Black & White 2 also features elements of real-time strategy gameplay, with the addition of controllable warfare and fighting units.
