This is a great game, that deserves to be preserved and not made inaccessible when the servers shutdown — hopefully Stop Killing Games will pass and make this a non-issue, but that doesn't mean it can't have a DRM free version here on GOG.
The atmosphere, immersion, and sound design is incredible and in these aspects feels like a successor to Far Cry 2, a game I love. The gun-play is tense and tactical, while also being satisfying in the aiming, shooting, movement and other related mechanics. The systems — sounds, NPCs, bosses, weapons, tools, consumables, traits, resource management, permadeath, team-play, PvP, extraction, timer — are complicated and interwoven together in a way that creates a lot of depth, interesting decisions, strategies and tactics. The permadeath is meaningful and tense, while not being overbearing. The setting is beautifully realized; a period of transition from the Wild West into the Industrial era, the real world and the supernatural. The art is beatiful and unique. The mechanics are interesting and polished.
The game is worth not just remembering, not just seeing, but experiencing, today and in the future.
