Story:The Hell-Copter flying squadron and its leader Robert Fortune are feared around the world. You play Fortune in these 20 missions, in a 3D action game where you, the player, maneuver a highly armed helicopter. Sometimes, you'll have to rescue somebody; in other cases, you need to destroy something or even protect your own base. To accomplish this task, you shoot everything that moves with miniguns and missiles You have limited weapon stocks, but it's possible to find some refills on the ground. The missions are always straightforward - you can fly everywhere on the map, but your little radar will show you where to go next.Show more

I still remember how I have played the Hell-Copter demo version with its two levels almost to death, back in 1998, despite the fact that it came out during the same time when Half Life was released, at least if I do remember correctly. Some of my classmates from that time also knew the demo of it and loved it just as much. It took me almost 1.5 decades, until I have found an old retail version of the full game. The game itself is simple. You are looking down onto the top of your helicopter, yet it is not one of those sidescroller games, but a game with 3D terrain, 3D units and the freedom to fly where you want to, so you are able to finish the goals of the mission in the order that you choose for yourself. There are three helicopters, a light but fast one, a medium one and a heavy one. All three of them can be upgraded and the great thing is that you can replay previous missions and continue to gather points from those, so if a mission is getting too hard, you just play the previous ones, until your chopper is upgraded enough with better weapons and armor. Upgrading is also very needed, because the difficulty of the game rises with further missions. In all you receive so many enemies to destroy, ground and air ones, beautiful explosions and a quite realistic military setting, despite the fact that the game is an Arcade-like action game and not a helicopter simulation. I do not know why this game has never received any successor or that no one talked about this game for very long, because it contains so many action-filled Arcade fun that it is great enough for a simple, yet very challenging experience. I really hope that one day GOG can get their hands on it and make it ready for modern Windows versions, which may be a tough work, but the simple, yet realistic feeling of its action gives this game something unique that I was unable to find in any other (helicopter) game, even today, in 2025. And I think that truly says it all how much this great game stands out.

Got this one back then in a magazine called Computer Bild Spiele that my dad sometimes bought. I was so impressed by it that I came back to it time and time again. But for years I was stuck on the last missions cause they got so hard. Getting it on GOG would help me finally being able to finish it.

One of the first legit games I got, 3 types of Helis to choose from, multiple weapons, big maps (at least I remember them being big) and multiple types of missions waiting for you. Also - who doesn't love equipping helicopters with rocket-like boosters to fly as quick as a jet?
Those games also need your vote!

FreelancerEight hundred years prior to the start of our story, bitter conflict divided all of mankind. A handful of colonists struck out on their own to begin anew - far away from the Earth and its turmoil. Several ships were launched with enough equipment and supplies to give the hundreds onboard a fighting chance - but since the area around far-off Sirius had never been surveyed, no one really knew what to expect. What they found was a new frontier of free-flowing natural resources, unexplored territories, great wonders and lurking dangers. Each ship, representing the clusters of people and their earthly place of origin, settled into different parts of the galaxy pre-selected by their ship-board computer to give them the best chance of survival. Life was hard in the beginning, but over the 800 years the different colonies prospered and expanded their territories, claiming more and more systems for their own. Survival and propagation eventually led to growth and profit as each of the colonies developed specialties and fostered commerce. As the colonies grew and time passed their connections with their roots on Earth dwindled and they lost their memories of the conflicts of the past. Soon their attention was dominated by new, more immediate conflicts. Feelings of lost ancestral connection spurred anachronism in the look of the great cities, and created a somewhat distorted image of each colony's cultural heritage. In the ever-expanding outer edge of the territories, frontier lawlessness prevailed. The Houses: Each shipboard colony that left Earth carried some memory of its origins in its name. The Liberty carried Americans, The Bretonia flew from The United Kingdom and surrounding territory, The Kusari from Asia, and the Rheinland launched with Germanic cargo. As each ship settled and colonies began to expand, they knew little about each other and their advancing development. Finally, little by little, the individual colonies found each other and began to set up trade routes to link their systems for commerce and solidarity. Today, with each colony firmly rooted in its respective corner of the galaxy, the colonies rely heavily on each other for trade and industry but also compete for resources and new territories in the Border Worlds. The colonies mandate member governments in "The New Alliance" within the Sirius sector. To control conflicts, each colony has forged alliances and treaties with others as they have grown. Competition remains fierce, however. Struggles rage for supremacy in business, commerce, resources, power and control. There can be tenuous peace between colonies' political agendas, but the grabs for holdings constantly unsettle the volatile frontier.
