The true successor to Dungeon Keeper

I've never been big into strategy games, but the Dungeon Keeper games were always an exception. Especially the first game is one of my all-time favorites! When War For The Overworld hit GOG, it was everything I wanted... and more! Before, I heard a lot of mixed opinions, since the game has it's problems taking off. However as it arrived on GOG, it was extremely well developed and the recent patches and additions make it one of the best in the genre, even surpassing DK1 for me. Something I didn't think was possible. And here's why: What I always loved with with DK1 is how it allowed you to take every level how you liked. There's a lot of freedom in how you solve a situation. DK2 expanded mechanics but ultimately limited you (largely) to play a level "how it was intended". War For The Overworld gives you even more options, more mechanics, units, room types, spells, constructs, and much more! The missions are more varied and structured similar to DK2, but it retains the freedom *how* to play from DK1. The best of both worlds! On top of that, levels typically come with multiple objectives (required, optional, challenges, etc), are massive and completing is incredibly rewarding. On that note, it's only a little tradeoff, that the main campaign has only half the levels present in DK1. Quality over quantity! Nonetheless, Brightrock Games never rested, and added a ton of more content: Heart Of Gold (5 level campaign), Crucible (DK meets Tower Defense), My Pet Dungeon (Sandbox with Objectives) and last but not least, the final expansion: The Undergames, a tournament that sets four different Underlings against each other, all with their unique abilities/gameplay! Plus Multiplayer and level editor on top of that! Brightrock Games truly understands Dungeon Keeper and they put their heart and soul into this game for over 3 years now. And so, War For The Overworld is wonderful. I can fully recommend it to all fans of Dungeon Keeper and everyone who likes strategy.

Dungeon Keeper 2018

I'm playing this game on Linux Mint 19, stable with no issues. The concept is as of now the closest one can get to the old Dungeon Keeper franchise. I also own the Dungeons X series, which is not too bad, but at times with the cartoon style and the overexcited waffling evil a bit too annoying. WotO however finds, in my opinion, a good balance between sarcastic/funny comments and 'serious' game play to create a convincing atmosphere to dig your own, and some heroes graves. It is also still actively updated (just got patched to 2.0.7 with bug fixes, improvements and more scripting support in the map editor). It features different games modes like Campaign, Skirmish, My Pet Dungeon (dlc), etc, different dungeon styles (well kind of), seasonal events (if you log in). Beside the original rooms and creatures, some new, like the witch chamber or the beast den are available, lots of new traps with distinguish effects and a point based research tree gives new strategical options. I's also well balanced, with different AI settings, thou some people claim the AI is 'cheating' a bit it's not to bad. In the end, it's difficult to create a reasonable ai with so many possibilities to choose from and still run smoothly on low end machines without a bit of cheating here an now. Not more nor less.

Great game, if it works

Anybody who has played Dungeon Keeper will know what I'm talking about. The "good old" that we all know, in a refreshed and more refined package. It's based on Unreal Engine so expect everything to be nice and shiny, with all the lightning effects. It could use a bit more of the well known dark humor from the orginal series, but still time well spent... if it works. The game needs some serious additional stability development work on the graphics engine, as it does not seem to be optimised. Heavy on the CPU, GPU, RAM, and still crashing despite vast resources available. Don't get me wrong, the game is a 5* wonder if it works, but after trying to complete a single level for the 10th time I'll wait till it's past beta.

well done

Played the game a while ago and can absolutly recommend it. Obviously a dungeon keeper type of game. Following some thoughts about the game .... gameplay: It's fun to play and runs stabel. You can try out different strategies and you get challenged with different types of objectives. graphics: A little older now, but still nice to look add. You can see that the developers put a lot of effort into it. difficulty: It could be a little more challenging for my taste, but some of the levels are tricky. story: There i had to cut off one star. The story is very generic and anticlimactic at the end.

The successor to Dungeon Keeper 2

There are a couple more similar games available that are ok but this one, in my opinion, really brings everything together that you loved about Dungeon Keeper and expands on it for the most part. If I had to change anything, I think it would be something I liked about another dungeon keeper type game called "Dungeons", I really like how you upgrade your minions in that one vs. just pretty much doing everything from a specific menu, like this one. Really though, this one is more superior. Better thought out, more complete and more faithful to the obvious source material. We are all inspired by someone.
