My first review ever

The biggest pro for me is that there is not many side quests which will break you concentration from main story. For me this is problem of many games today, that because of many side guests you forgot main story. Nice example is Torment: Tides of Numenera. I play this dozens of hours and I am not sure if there will be any mentionable main story in case of milions micro stories (each about whatever but not anyhow connected to other stories) all around. Tyranny is not this case. Other game techniques are also good or interesting. If there must be any con it can be cutted ending. I hope in creating next episode wchich will repair it.

Buff heavy combat, Rich story

It does a a very well job to introduce a special world with its own rules. Having a ominous overlord rule the world is something that allows a lot of epicness to follow it up. The games soundtrack is not bad, but it becomes shallow from time to time, would have liked a more immersive sound/music system here, to get some chatter and background noise in towns with people and a some more crypt like sounds in underground dungeons. 3/5 here, its ok, but could be done much better to increase the atmosphere. Graphics are totally fine. Could be better ofcourse, but they totally do their job and the world is interesting enough in how it looks and it overall fits the theme. The actual combat is pretty buff heavy. That means, if you play on any harder difficulty, you will use a lot of buff spells to get you in a fighting mode that stuff does not 1 shot you. Having a very high grace / parry / dodge chance is extremly important early on, as it literally reduces damage by 50% or even completly by avoiding it entirely. Healing wise, you can totally miss on the healing magic, which puts you in a tremendously abysmal situation. So the game does a terrible job in introducing its extremly important magic. And every character can and should use some magic, at least some buff spells, even if they are melee fighters, everyone can pack a healing touch, a buff spell or something to work with. Attacking gets such a big recovery penalty in big armor, that you want to be almost nacked to get a good damage dealer (recovery time at like 1sec is so much better compared to 3+ while you can totally tank damage with enough buffs by spells and simplyd isabling them with stuns/prone/freeze and all that stuff). Pure casters as damage dealers are bad early and turn into unstoppable magic machine guns in the late game, which makes any combat trivial, as you can totally controll and obliterate any opponent and any number of opponents easily. A great game, and some great ideas that should be honored.

Very nice game

Tyranny is a very nice RPG. It is the most rewarding game I've ever played, and offers the choices you always wanted to make. Playing nice or bad is rewarding, you don't have the feeling to miss a part of the story by playing ugly. The magic system is very nice and reminds of Morrowind. It is quite overpowered though. In general, the game is very easy. In path of the damn difficulty (my first playthrough), the fights are really, really hard. But after the second boss fight... No need to use any consumable. I still long for a game that forces me to use consumables without imposing myself arbitrary challenges... The AI isn't very convincing : stealth is over over over powered for crowd management. In spite of that, the feelings are really good. The story is not that good, but the rewards and the choices are excellent. A must have in my opinion.

Excellent Game

I read the bad reviews first on this game and decided not to get it. Months later, after it was on sale I figured that I would give it a try and I have not looked back. No, it's not like Baldurs Gate, but it is incredible in its own way! PROS Incredible spell casting system - allows you to make your own spells practically within the confines of the game Incredible story Many different types of characters to choose from and become Many paths to take in the game, decisions affect your outcome greatly Neat weapon forging powers A lot of dialogue CONS Takes a while to build up powerful spells Grasping the character development is challenging because it is so vast Weapons and armor are numerous but all feel oddly similar >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Overall I felt that this was a great game!

Exceptional and original

Tyranny is one of the most interesting games I've played. Even among isometric, story driven game it stands apart by placing you in an exceptionally well devised roll where your choices are hard and the outcomes aren't always good whichever way you go. If you've enjoyed Planescape, Baldur's gate, PoE and similar games you must try it and explore the world. In answer to those who criticize it claiming that you must be evil, it's not true. You must, however, make extremely hard choices in a violet world and you aren't in control. Some things are beyond your ability and authority, do the best you can. Play through multiple times too, well worth it.
