Time Commando

Although there is no voiceover during the intro scene. Great controls, same nostalgic graphics, diverse environments. The music is just enough and follows the original release to a T. Cheats work, so that's always nice.

Natürlich ist "Time Commando" Nostalgie, denn als es herausgekommen ist, habe ich es unzählige Male durchgespielt. Es war kurz. Es war grafisch mit seinen gerenderten, animierten Hintergründen revolutionär - und es hatte eine Waffenvielfalt und Levelvielfalt, die man bis dahin nicht gesehen hat. Denn sie bewegte sich durch alle Zeiten. Nachdem ich "Time Commando" nun nach mehreren Jahrzehnten wieder gespielt habe, weiß ich: Es hat für mich nichts von seiner Faszination verloren. Aber in Sachen Spielbarkeit muss man es schon "von früher kennen", um mit der sehr behäbigen Tanksteuerung klarzukommen, die spätestens im Level "Normal" den Spieler hoffnungslos unterlegen macht gegen die sehr präzise schießenden Gegner. Denn bis man sich wie ein Panzerturm gedreht und den Gegner ins Visier genommen hat, hat ihn der gegnerische Panzer - bedeutend agiler als der Spieler - schon längst erwischt. Aber für mich: 5 Sterne für ein einzigartiges Retroerlebnis mit Nostalgiefaktor!

This game lets you kills enemies with about 100 different weapons each of which is super cool. I remember that playing this when I was a small child (20 years ago?) it felt so cool that I did not even care about the clunky controls. If the controls were clunky there were ways around forcing the controls to do what you wanted. Back then we were more insistent and less whiney. Now a days people would give 1 star to a game if they are slightly displeased by controls or camera angles or such. Back then we were real gamers, 10 years old albeit real gamers. I dont think anybody under 25 should buy this game but if you are person who has played this game 20 years ago, you should definitely rebuy this game to show your gratitude to the developers for all the jolly fun times you had with it.

Played it when I was young, probably 5 yo, but playing it today you can see all the defects that it has. I played with a friend of mine and got some laughs. There are some puzzles with no sense, the FMVs are so low quality that you might not see where you are supposed to go, and the combat is very bad. I recommended to people who is intrested in this type of game... the ones that are very clunky

I tried several times to get into this game without having success, because I always had problems to reach the next savepoint. Playing this game caused a lot of tantrums, because it is often unfair in every regard. I started on level of difficulty normal, reached the middle age and then had to realise, that I couldn't defeat a knight and a skeleton warrior. I then started new on level of difficulty easy and could reach the last levels with the help of youtube vids. The last levels are totally brainsick and awfull like the end of system shock 2. Then I had to use cheats to see the end titles. I think, this game didn't have enough beta testing in former times. The game has neat ideas, but the execution is often poor. It is sometimes fun to play, but I couldn't really give more than 3 stars. pros: - colourful presentation of its time - one of the few memorable dos action games - good soundtrack - big variety of ennemies - interesting game plot with varying ages and arsenal of weapons - sometimes fun to play cons: - clunky controls - often bad camera view - unfair savepoints - weird level of difficulty - hard to find secret rooms and bonus material - you have to look for secrets, but have to be fast due to time limits
