Throwback To Classic P&C Adventure Games

Highly recommended if you enjoy point and click adventure games, classics or otherwise. This was a wonderful treat when it first came out. Haven't decided to review it until now. Story is pretty humorous, well written, well paced, and with plenty of in-jokes from classic LucasArts adventure games. (If you have the option turned on). With a few nods to classic Sierra adventure games. Also has a lot of late 80s early 90s humor, references, and lingo among other things. If you're at all experienced with point and click adventure games, play it on Normal Mode! Casual is too much of a breeze. There's also a hint system if you really need it. I only have one gripe that has to do with an end of the game puzzle, but you can easily look it up or brute force it without much hassle at all. You might even be able to use the hint system to help you, I haven't tried it though. All in all a solid 5-10 hours of fun. Definitely worth the asking price, even without a sale going.

I had fun!

I played in expert mode. the game is hard, but that's because of the 4 playable characters. the puzzledesign is good and the story is awesome. But at some points I didn't knew what to do because the characters didn't really interact with each other. For example the agents barely talked and worked together except for one or two puzzels. Everything else is the same so I just played with the agent that I liked more. Sometimes I already new what to do but it didn't work. If your struggeling with that maybe look which clues are avaible in the HintTron. So you know on which task/puzzle you should work on. Also I didn't have the feeling that the characters acutally worked together. They were all doing their own thing and in some scenes they met and discovered stuff together. I don't know if that's intentional. The game is very funny and breaks the fourth wall a lot and for everyone who like adventure games: You should buy this. If your new to it maybe start somewhere else.

Aus der goldenen Zeit der Adventures

Zuerst einmal möchte ich auf die Aspekte eingehen, welche mich etwas gestört haben. Ich finde den Einsatz verschiedener Charaktere zwar durchaus interessant, allerdings war dies damals in Day of the Tentacle besser umgesetzt, da die Charaktere die meiste Zeit in separaten Epochen unterwegs waren und daher das Spielgeschehen sich besser überblicken ließ. In TP ist man sich an vielen Stellen unsicher, ob ein Rätsel möglicherweise nur mit einem anderen Charakter lösbar ist. Außerdem ist die allgemeine Stimmung im Spiel für meinen Geschmack etwas zu düster. Dies sind allerdings nur kleinere Probleme, welche mich nicht davon abhalten dem Spiel fünf Sterne zu verpassen. Wie es die Ankündigungen erwarten ließen, handelt es sich bei TP um ein klassisches Point-and-Click-Adventure auf dem Niveau der goldenen Zeit dieser Spielegattung. Die Rätsel sind solide und meist logisch, gelegentlich gab es aber Situationen in denen ich nicht wusste wie ich nun weiter vorgehen muss. Mittlerweile gibt es in der aktuellen Version des Spiels eine integrierte Hilfe, HintTron 3000™ genannt, welcher mir möglicherweise in solchen Situationen hilfreich gewesen wäre. Ich denke, ich werde mich bei Gelegenheit nochmal in der momentan aktuellen Version 1420.955 etwas umschauen. Gespielt habe ich das Spiel in Version 1307.858. Insgesamt habe ich, laut den in den Spielständen angegebenen Zeiten, 20 Stunden für das gesamte Spiel gebraucht. Wünschenswert wären weitere Spiele in dieser Richtung, allerdings dürfte es noch etwas mehr in Richtung Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle und Sam 'n Max gehen. Gespielt habe ich mit Untertiteln und Sprachausgabe in Englisch. Generell wäre es wünschenswert gewesen, wenn es auch eine deutsche Sprachausgabe gegeben hätte.

Ron Gilbert lost up his own...

So, I really really wanted to love this game. I wanted to so bad. I bought it on release day and IMMEDIATELY started streaming it (feel free to search for it on the SaveStateHeroes YT channel). The cracks started showing pretty early on, when a large part of the humor turned out to be merely referencing Gilbert's classic works, as well as his disagreements with the adventure game philosphy of his then-adversaries at Sierra. The weakest point, however, is the story, which, in an adventure game, is pretty much the cardinal sin. The game builds up a big mystery, only to let it fizzle out and pretty much completely discard it by the end. I was incredibly disappointed. I give three stars because at many points I was amused by the game, the art was actually very nice and it did keep me hooked until the end, despite my misgivings. Boris was robbed. Play Paradigm instead.

Not as good as it could have been

This game was a mixed bag. On the good side, the pixel work was excellent, and the voice acting was all very good. The music was okay. There was also an in-game hint through which was a pleasant surprise. On the bad side, the story line was boring and predictable. The humor was sub-par and not funny; it was mostly annoying. The creators of this game could have taken quite a few tips from Darkside Detective if they were looking to be funny. The characters were poorly developed, and difficult to care about. Some of them were downright annoying. The hint through was made unavailable in the last chapter of the game. And the most frustrating thing was that to figure out something in the end of the game, you're told to go watch the first Kickstarter video that was made for the game. I found that to be in very poor taste. I've never played a game that told me that there was no way for me to solve a puzzle without going to their Kickstarter page, and the fact that the makers of this game expected me to was a major turn off. I fail to even see the need for such a gimmick - it adds nothing to the game and only pulls players out of the experience. Additionally, as another reviewer mentioned, there were many juvenile hate jokes against classic adventure game designers and developers, which were unnecessary and in poor taste. Ultimately, this game, while aesthetically pleasing, is shallow, poorly written, has mostly unlikable characters, and has no replay value.
