Maybe it was good for the 90s?
After playing for about a dozen hours, I can safely say this is just not a game worth playing. It may be a familiarity with more modern sensibilities in the gaming space, but to me this game is just painful to play in every respect. The controls are terrible, interacting with the world and combat is clunky, impercise and downright unpleasent. This alone really kills the whole experience, because a game is made to be played and interacted with, if doing so feels like pulling your own teeth it just is not worth it. From what I have gotten from the story and presentation, both are passable, with mildly interesting yet ultimately flat characters typical of most games, they really only exist to further progression and I never became invested in any one character. That this is the root of the two amazing follow up games is quite astounding, but definetly worthy of a HARD PASS, in favor of just skipping into Witcher 2 and 3, you really are not missing anything of value.
