Still a great RPG

Revisiting this game after having played through the trilogy once, the first Witcher still holds up really well and stands as the second best game in the series, in my opinion. The overall jankiness of the game doesn't stand in the way of its fantastic story, characters and atmosphere. The gameplay grows on you and feels more rewarding the more care you put into preparing the right setup for different encounters. If you end up liking the game enough to replay it, I encourage you to take different choices and see how that affects the story, because it's worth it.

Nach dem ersten Kapitel aufgehört

Ich gehöre zu den Leuten, die nach Witcher 3 auch Teil 1 und 2 gekauft haben. Was Teil 1 betrifft, ein Fehler. Einerseits ist die Story nicht so gut, vor allem aber spielerisch (und natürlich technisch, aber das war mir klar) liegen Welten zwischen 1 und 3. Ich war zwar beeindruckt, wie die Geschichte mit dem Dorf voller anscheinend anständiger Bürger ausging, aber davor war viel ödes Gerenne nötig und danach fand ich mich wieder in der üblichen Rollenspiel-Kanalisation, worauf mir dann die Lust verging. Da ich Teil 1 bei einem Sale sehr günstig bekam, will ich nicht schlechter als 3 Sterne bewerten, ansonsten würde ich da noch ein oder sogar zwei Sterne abziehen. Fazit: Wem Witcher 3 gefällt, dem gefällt nicht unbedingt auch Teil 1.

Some rough edges, but lots of smooth

So many good qualities about this game that others have already mentioned. This is an exceptional game on the whole though. It was suggested to not concern myself with W1 and W2 and just go to W3, but I am very glad that I played this game.

Old but GOLD!

At first, I didn't expect the game to hit me since I played Witcher 3 before this but this game proved me wrong. Control is different, not quite as clunky as Witcher 2. Good story-telling, game mechanic base on quick-time-event to chain attack into combos, very old school and classic RPG. No need to hesitate, the game might be tedious at the beginning but you will get hooked up once you reach Chapter 2.

Not polished but a fun experience

The beginning of a great series and a landmark of a great game studio. This game is fun, although in many aspects you can see it lacks polish. For example, sometimes you just feel the transition between loading screens and gameplays abrupt. The cutscene can end suddenly. The control, especially during battles, is probably the most annoying. I ended up using mods to finish the game as I just want to enjoy the story and overall presentation of the game. With the way the control is, I probably would never be able to finish the game without modding. That being said, this is still a good game. Over the past two weeks I played everyday and just unwilling to stop playing every night. And at the moment I finished the game I couldn't help downloading The Witcher 2 immediately. Graphical-wise, you can see it is severely limited by the game engine, but the art design is simply amazing and more than enough to cover the engine insufficiency. The music is also great. It is far from perfect, but it is a must play for sure.
