20th century occultism

Usually the setting in which this game takes place is not my cup of tea. Everything slightly historical bores me to death. But the demons really make up for it. This game has the exact amounts of horror and tension for me to be totally captivating. I love the characters and the world, the story is well written and exciting. If I had the time, I would have been "binge-playing" the game, like it was my favorite netflix series. I love reading in games, like the Pillars titles, like Disco Elysium, Torment, BG series, so this game is what I was looking for. The turn based fight were good and most of the time doable. Only one fight for a salutor or the other hat to be taken several times until I succeeded. I had 2 or 3 hours of boring grinding, since I could not interact with locked items, but I did not notice at that point, that I first had to get a salutor in the main campaign, before I could actually access these hints. Could have spared me sometime with a littel tutorial heads up, but I don't mind in the end. Great Game, fully recommend it.

Not for everyone

I think whether you will enjoy this game depends mainly on whether you like the story or not. The gameplay is unlikely to convince anyone, as the battles quickly become repetitive and the role-playing system doesn't have that much impact on the narrative. This game is more about your dialog choices. It's not like Disco Elysium, where the dialog options are largely dependent on character stats, and so far only pride seems to play a major role in that regard. Maybe there will be more later on, but I gave up halfway through the story. It just didn't grab me, even though I find the setting very appealing. The art design and music are great, but here are a few points why I'll probably never finish the game: - Poor performance, frequent stutters, texture pop ins - If you start a conversation while roaming the streets, it will probably lead to a brawl (possibly historically accurate, but ridiculous at some point) - Hints are often too vague, you don't miss that much if you don't read them - Conclusions are drawn automatically, no player agency here - When you're not fighting or talking, you're mainly running around snapping your fingers to find clues; the constant right-clicking to examine a small area is a main gameplay element and quickly becomes tedious - The English dubbing was realized with both polish and native speakers, which is why the result is very uneven; Polish dub is much better and spares you the constant F-bombs, which for me don't fit the setting (I'm not against swearing, but at times it felt like I was on the Steam forums) I think the game could have been a lot better if they had taken a little inspiration from Frogware's Sherlock Holmes games. If you had to come to (possibly wrong) conclusions on your own, the story would be much more engaging for me. It also takes far too long to get going. Only from chapter 2 there is something like a common thread, while the events from the prologue don't seem to be too relevant later on.

Decent 4/5 game. Good story and combat

Just finished the campaign. Took me around 47h with almost all side quests I was able to find. I liked the game, especially the combat system with salutors. Story starts off slow (sometimes it's reeeeallly slow in Act 1 and beginning of Act 2), but picks up in pace at the end of Act 2 and in Act 3 is really interesting with high stakes. What I really liked here is these seemingly random fights that come up from nowhere, like bunch of randos start asking questions and you know it's going to be a fight there. This works wonders to break the slow pace in the beginning of the game, so good job there. Voice acting is decent, but don't expect AAA performance here. In few dialogs it almost feels like AI generated bland and soulless (but this is exception and not the norm. Just know that it's there sometimes). That's it yeah, in summary a decent 4/5 game with interesting combat system that has the potential to be even better in the next game.

"There lived a certain man in russia..."

Came for Rasputin; stayed for Wiktor and the overall fun, gripping and engaging gameplay. This game nails the combat, music, dialogue and narrative masterfully; only failing at exploration, which is a dull series of right-clickings. Nonetheless, still a solid 9,5/10. I wish there were more gems like this.

cool story

To beginn with I really liked the game and played it complety through, except for some minor stuff i just missed. To summarize the experience I would definetly recommend it and will maybe play it again at some point. The negatives I have are minor stuff to me. What I liked: + world design: you walk through small instances / maps freely and can hop between them + In-game time: as you do things in the world the days go by. Certain things can just be done or found at specific daytimes + story: the early 20th century fantasy-version of poland was fresh for me. I really liked how the story was told and that there are some messages "hidden". That said, its not the most intense and thrilling story, but enjoyable for the estimated time What I disliked: - the game didn't run very smooth, neither on windows nor on linux. But except for 2 or 3 crashes and some frame stuttering here and there everythings fine - the leveling / upgrade system: because this is tied to the story and your decisions you will propably not get the most optimal build paying blind. For me it was fine because of the game design and it doesnt really matter in combat.
