nice but not perfect
The idea of "open" world is good and somehow makes more fun to me than The Surge 1. But the atmosphere is somehow different. In part 1 the atmosphere is more dense and you feel the danger and horror. In part 2 it is more relaxing (what I liked). The fighting system is still good (maybe better because of parrying). The order of quests and story telling is worse than in part 1 since you can go somewhere else first and trigger some stuff which makes no sense until you pass the "first level". The amount of weapons and armours is awesome. I played it multiple times on steam. I did not like the bugs (not that many) and the point that your character does not have a voice.

Still not Dark Souls, and that's great
Played & finished the The Surge 1, I liked a lot the techno-horror atmosphere there, and the fact that by adapting at your opponents, you didn"t have to grind (only did once at the beginning of the game). The Surge 2 has lost the horror aspect, but remains techno/thriller oriented. The gameplay with the oriented parade mecanism is great (still, like everyone else, I get angry each time I miss a parade and the targeting system thinks the direction entered was for him) and finally allow heavy hitter/armored build to be damn efficient. That, plus come freaking awesome armors like the BEAST (buy the premium version of the game, not the standard one that lack lots of gears and mods), and for the first time in this genre of game, I ran a heavy BEAST build till the end and had a lot of fun with it. The 3 slots system allows you to have 3 builds instantly at hand, which is damn handy, to be ready for various situations. Again, buy the premium version, the kraken story line is short but rather fun. Like lots of side quests in the main game. Played 54h, did almost annd quests, and died 109 times. So, it is not that hard (having a boss oriented build and upgrading its gear to the max before you fight a boss in a zone is always a good idea...) (FYI, I fails at Sekiro miserably). Technically speaking: 0 issue, except some stutters with the default configuration. I had to disable Texture Streaming to fix it, as my i5 3xxxx CPU is a bit old.

Excellent gameplay, map design slips.
I found the combat to be as expected very similar to The Surge 1, with a much larger focus on fluidity in combat and just overall more enjoyable enemy combatants with some more creativity. Enemies are still mostly humanoids with a few exceptions here and there, but the way enemies attack becomes more and more erratic as the story progresses. I did find an issue with the brightness, while bright areas felt correct, even slightly dimly lit areas seemed to be near pitch black commonly, and don't get me started on the underground which is as dark as the human eye can see. This obviosly inhibited combat prowess and enjoyment. The story is a very serviceable piece told kind of loosely and the flow of it can be a little odd at times since the openess of The Surge 2s open world map design allows for sequence breaks that aren't actually sequence breaks. My issues with this game come primarily down to the map design in the latter half of the game, the map we knew is altered by story events which makes travelling much more difficult, since there is no conventional map screen you've got to learn and figure out the correct paths, and the primary way of getting to and fro without the fast travel option, which is only available for 3 locations, is through the underground which is a dark and confusing mess of chasms and corridors which all sort of blend together into a mess. The bosses found in this game, all 15 of them, are a mixed bag. The main game bosses are mostly humanoids, and they're usually a dude with a bigger health bar. some have phases where they gain new abilities and attacks on their next phases which helps alot (General Ezra Shields) and one non-humanoid boss in particular was a fantastic fight, the Delver, a three stage boss fight in which the first two are a good balance of fun and challenge, and then there is Delver phase 3. We do not talk about phase 3. Very worth the price; sale or not, weapon and armour variety mean multiple playthroughs are very viable.

A surprise.
I heard about this game before and the improvements on the original Surge gameplay and level design, but I did not expect to love the game. The combat is incredible and makes things like getting armour and weapons intuitive on top of being fluid, fast and enjoyable, for example: Do you want that armour or weapon the enemy is wearing? Simple cut the limbs off and get it, no random drops, you get exactly what you wanted. I mention this because I hate random loot, spending hours in other games to get one drop is something I never want to do. A fix I didn't know I wanted until I had it. The story is simple but has its twist and turns but you will stay for the gameplay, the last thing I will say and I know it is subjective, I like it more than Sekiro even with its flaws, I find it a lot more fun. Ps: Play the DLC before the end of the game as you cannot turn back after the last boss.
