In Andergast, whose inhabitants are considered to be notoriously superstitious, King Efferdan awaits a state visit from high-ranking dignitaries. For centuries the kingdom has been at odds with neighboring Nostria, but now first steps are being undertaken toward a lasting peace. But a plague of crows troubles the king, for the birds are acting with unusual aggressiveness, even attacking humans. Moreover, there are those among the citizens of Andergast who swear that the crows are bringing them dark nightmares. As the belligerent creatures infiltrate even the castle itself, the king seeks a skilled bird catcher - an opportunity for young Geron to prove that the reputation for ill luck that has followed him since childhood is undeserved. Following an audience with the king, the prestigious task is assigned to him. However, not only does his task prove unexpectedly difficult, but it also turns out to be the first step of the greatest adventure of his life, which will lead him to the borders of the charted lands of Aventuria and beyond.

While I'm not quite as wild about this one as the Deponia series, it's still very good. It's got beautiful scenery and great puzzles and a story that really gets you by the end. Daedalic is working on a direct sequel called Memoria, which, believe it or not, continues the story of Geron and poor, cursed Nuri in addition to introducing a new major character. I'm pretty excited about it.
Schön geschriebene Geschichte, fantastische Grafik, interessante Puzzles und das Ende hat mir auch gefallen. Ein kleiner Minus für die manchmal unlogischen Stellen, aber wozu hat man Lösungen, wenn man steckenbleibt?
DEUTSCHE FASSUNG -- es gibt einen Patch für die GOG Version von Sattinavs Ketten. Einfach googeln. Hat bei mir reibungslos funktioniert.
This is a very good entry in the point & click genre. A delightful, fairytalelike story with a moody atmosphere, feylike soundtrack, interesting fantasy setting and a very likeable and well-rounded duo of main characters, who greatly complement each other in the narrative. It is not a difficult game, and sports some innovative features that stand out from the somewhat staid interface dogmas of the genre, so you get to enjoy the story without too much frustration at getting stuck.
It's too bad GOG couldn't provide the German voiceovers, but the English voice actors do a fine job of it. Definitely not to be missed by p&c enthusiasts and casual gamers alike.
The graphics are beautiful, we all agree on that. The story is clichéd, true, but I found it still enjoyable. I'd say it's kind of old style, nostalgic, in a cute and unashamed way. Recommended.
A standard story-driven third person perspective point-and-click adventure game that drew me in quite fast.
The story is great and it's mostly very well written. There's a powerful, if not heartbreaking midpoint climax, and the conclusion feels right. I could write more here but I wouldn't be able to avoid spoilers in order to praise the power of the story. A straightforward fantasy, but although magic is what propels it, it is the story of Geron and Nuri. The epic quest involved is a side effect really.
The two protagonists are rather stereotypical but I found them adequately written and developed as per the requirements of the story being told here. The villain is interesting as he's not on a mindless mission to rule over the land but more on a personal quest.
The puzzles are not very hard, but varied and never irrational. There are a couple of fairly more challenging areas. Overall the game paces along nicely as long you're thorough and exhaust all options.
The environments are never boring with the orc camp and the fairy-land standing out for me. The progression is strictly linear and once you're done with a place you can't go back.
Visually this is a masterpiece and I feel the art compliments the story wonderfully. The animation is basic. I didn't feel this was a budget issue, but if it was I'm happy it wasn't a priority. It gets the job done and after a few minutes in I wasn't even paying attention to the minimal frames.
The voice acting is okay although Geron's was rather flat. Nuri is convincingly naive, playful or sad whenever appropriate. The music is beautiful and sets the tone appropriately.
Overall a game that is certainly more than the sum of its parts. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
If you like point'n'click adventures, play it. More so if you're into fantasy. Just don't expect a lighthearted experience with funny (or wanna-be funny) dialogs and comments.
